I heard a rumor today that there will a new Ranger here in the States. It's going to get an 2.7L ecoboost engine. Has anyone else heard this?

Well if Dodge really is killing tha Dakota like so many sources have stated, and the Tacoma is bigger, and the Colorado is bigger, and CAFE standards are increasing, it would seem idiotic for Ford NOT to have some sort of small pickup in their lineup. With VW giving thought to bringing the Amarok here, which can get about 30+MPG and is already engineered to US standards, and the fact that while the current Ranger platform is the oldest one still made (28 years) its still profitable for Ford. From all I've read in the papers since I live in MN, the issues with the Ranger are as much about the size and upgradability of the plant they're built in as it is about anything in particular with the truck itself.

I get something different than you did.

MA maintains that the rumored small 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 will power the also oft-rumored next-gen Ford Ranger successor in the States, a model we believe to be deader than the current news cycle.

In my opinion, "Ford Ranger successor" means the model to replace the Ranger, meaning the Ranger is still dead. They back that up by saying "a model we believe to be deader than the current news cycle" which I believe is referring to the Ranger, and also as a dying model.

I'm sure something is in the pipeline, but not so sure it'll be a "Ranger" unless Alan Mullaly thinks he should slap that name on for market value like the Five Hundred and the Freestyle, whoops, I meant "Taurus" and "Explorer"..... I think....

The Freestyle is now a Taurus X rather than an Explorer.

But yeah, like James86 said - I think there's going to be something different. I wouldn't be surprised if they brought back the F100 and used Ranger as a sub model.

Like so:

Wow, a 2.7L V6 ecoboost. Thats a small V6 engine. Almost right next to the 2.5L V6 in the Couger. I wonder, with it being a V6, would it be packing twin turbos or just one.

The Ranger that we know and love is dead. We are just frying the dead horse as we try to electric shock it back to life. Ford would be wise to introduce a F-100 model to replace the Ranger. Give it all the good things of the bigger F-150 and package it in a smaller pickup.

This horse has been dead for so long we are smacking bones. Ford's motto is GLOBAL now. That means their products will be designed for the world not just us. The current "global" Ranger is 5/8th size of the F series. It won't fly here. Ford isn't going to put millions into a guess or maybe. You want a new Ranger but it's just not going to happen.

For the love of GOD until you see one on the road or Ford announces that they are building a North American Ranger ignore any and all rumor crap anyone puts out no matter who it is. Enjoy what you have now. Take care of it. This way Rangers will be around for a long time.

Besides I doubt Ford could do much better than what we have without pricing them way out of reach of those that want one.

By God if Jeep can still sling a tub on frame, solid axled 4x4 vehicle with removable doors and a folding windshield, make a PROFIT from it, and continue to do it for over 60 years, I have no reason to abandon hope that Ford WILL make a small utilitarian vehicle for the people who don't need a fullsize truck 7 days a week, just on the weekends.

Just my $.02 :damnit1:

NO NO NO NO...dude...stay in school and learn a trade!!!!

I remember seeing this plant down in Brazil, Ford said they'd like to build one here in the Us. What ever, when ever we would happen to get a new Ranger, would most probably be a global version. Video shows how Ford is trying to stay competative in todays market.

For one Ford isn't Chrysler. Second The Wrangler has a niche market where as the Ranger is a truck and used for dozens of functions besides off roading. The current F series in the V6 platform gets as good MPG as the Ranger with the same equipment and is larger ( personally my Ranger's size is right for me) and costs are similar. That's why the Ranger died. I don't need and will not buy a full size truck. Ford may someday make a small truck again but it will be to meet mileage requirements set by the government to offset the larger vehicles they offer and more than likely be a uni-body. The Global Ranger is a uni-body if I'm not mistaken.

And most of us can't afford a weekend vehicle these days. Ford will have to recoup their investment to produce it. By the time they design a small truck to meet the needs of most buyers it will be well over 20 grand and have to get well above the MPG of the F series to make it desirable. Look at all the crap Mahindra is going through just to get a small truck to the US market and they blew it with the gas milage it offers which is worse than my 93 4x4.
