Still trying to get the hang of it, especially trying to get the HD channels. It has about 50 different colors I can change it into...

Nice headunit!
i love that pioneer still has the green lightning so it combines with the Ford green light

DEH-44HD Installation Problem on 99 Ranger

I recently bought a Pioneer DEH-44HD from walmart and installed it in my 99 Ford Ranger. I purchased the wire harness adapter to easily connect it to my new radio. However, I noticed that the new radio does not have a slot or wire to attached illumination light or the dimmer ground, so I left them unattached but covered to prevent it touching something. Now my dashboard is completed dark. I have over the piss poor manual as well as the pioneer website for more info, but have not found anything to fix this problem. The pioneer website doesn’t even have the DEH-44HD listed as a product. What’s up with that? Anyway, what am I missing here. How do I get the dashboard light to work?

I have the same question...I removed the OEM radio from my 94 Ranger (no issues) and noticed the illumination wire. Checking the DEH-4400HD plug there is no IW (orange wire) to match up. Unfortunately, the local Ford shops here in town want $$ for their advice/workarounds. Does anyone have any workarounds/suggestions before I install the DEH-4400HD and experience what 'edinburgtx' has?

Anyone get this figured out?
I bought a new JVC deck, and the head unit harness has ONE orange wire marked "to light control switch"
but the ford harness kit I bought has a blank in the spot for "illumination" and has two wires marked "dimmer +" and "dimmer -"

Not sure what I am supposed to do here.

It doesn't need to be hooked up. I never hook it up because I always have my dimmer switch on max anyway. IIRC, you would hook it to the Dimmer + though.

Thanks buddy!
So, leaving the orange wire marked "illumination" on the head unit not hooked up will still have the head unit light up? Just not be able to dim with dimmer switch?

Should have bought a double din screen. A little trimming and it fits like a glove. Trust me on this one.

Nice radio though.

Eh double dins are cool but having a shelf is priceless for a cig smoker :P. That looks just like mine I installed last night, but I went with the one with blue tooth. I had to hard wire mine (:() since thats what previous owner did to install the old pioneer I replaced. Fun stuff I need to take many pics and make my own thread. Very nice! I love mine!
