As I'm sure many on here (that live in the snow belts) know, the snow plows can reek havoc on our mail boxes and posts. My current mail box is twisted in the ground and leaning over about 10-15 degrees. So I came up with an idea to make a much sturdier stand. Using 3/16" thick 1" angle iron I designed what almost looks like an oil rig or windmill frame, it is going to have a solar garden light on the top.

On with the pics:

The base, measures 36" long and 18" wide.

One of the two ends, mail box will stick out this towards the street.

Both ends, top and bottom welded together. The top is about 5' tall.

All welding done, it is currently sitting out in the sun allowing the paint to dry. As soon as it's all dry and I get the mail box and light mounted I will take a couple more pictures of the finished product.

you need a big old spring on the bottom, then when it gets hit it'll just flop around and go back in place. kinda like those little horses on school playgrounds.

looks cool though, cant wait to see the end result

All set and ready to be put out by the street.

Out at the end of the driveway! I think it looks awesome, and already had one person stop and ask about it!

What the mail lady will see tomorrow when she brings our mail.

looks sweet. get you a vine that'll drow up the side of it.

i like it... i live in one of those neighborhoods where all the boxes are connected and up front so.... i don't have that problem. and we don't even know what a snow plow looks like here???

I was thinking about something to that effect, hmmmmmm maybe a climbing rose vine would look nice.

lmao just picture a dump truck with a curved blade on the front! :icon_rofl:

No seriously, I wish we didn't have that problem. If they knock a mail box down they DO NOT fix it. A neighbor up the road said to hell with it and left it laying on the ground. Now they have a crappy looking flat box on a sign post!

I'm gonna ride by hanging out the window with plasma cutter and take that box out. :thefinger:

seriously though. thats awesome. :headbang:

around here no snow plows. but all the mail boxes are on 4x4 posts or are bricked up.

My grandfather had a problem with some idiot running over his mailbox on purpose, multiple times. He put a 15ft long, 10 inch dia ductile iron concrete filled pipe in as his mailbox post. He poured a 3x3ft pad around it. 3 days after he was finished, he found a car wrapped around the post. The post never moved off plumb. Never had a problem after that. Post is still there, even though the house isn't.
Wonder how a plow would fare with that post?

Yours looks beautiful.
