New Problem: Temp Gauge.99 4.0 sohc

installed a new thermostat.Sort of fixed the gage problem. Before I could drive my truck on a cool day and would not go near half way on the gauge. Now it goes there after 10 minuets of ideling. Also If I remove the radiator cap from a cold start and after a couple of minuets coolant slow comes out of the radiator.Never did this before.I just took the thermostat back out and put it in a pan of water and boiled it.It did not open till after 200 degrees or just when the water started to boil.I took it to Ford earlier and they checked for air in the coolant and said it was fine.It does not over heat with the new thermostat but it goes to half way on the gauge pretty quickly and stays there and goes no higher. Is this ok and what about the fluid coming out at a cold start from the radiator with the cap off after a few minuets.Any ides. Thanks

Very convoluted but,

Not over heating is good.

200 degrees is close to 190 so the themostat is good or themometer is also that you checked it is within 10 degrees.

As the fluid expands with the cap off it will overflow as it heats.

Air needs to be purged to correct wild gauge readings.

100 percent coolant will overheat an engine.

Sometimes ATf will blow past the front seal if overheated and overfilled, so check that out .

Also, remember ethylene glycol is not very user friendly to eating utensil's or you if ingested. Don't cook anything in anything that has had the substance in it.

Good luck

You have been reading too much! The Arabs have used 100% in the desert for many years.. Yes the oily 100% doesn't cling to heat zackly the same as WATER does but in place of a 50% mixture one CANNOT tell the difference. I have been using 100% for 40 years here in the TEXAS heat.

No Jim,

I actually broke an engine myself about 25 years ago with that method.

Air temp and Humidity is a little different here in the States.

Your advice never has much experience, but is appreciated.
