I just picked up a new 140 amp chrome alternator from powermaster on ebay for$107:yahoo:
new powermaster alternator question?

Is there any gotcha's I should know about installation on this alternator?

The only thing I know of is hooking the "on" line to the ignition power so the alternator will start charging right away as opposed to having to get the rpm's over 1200 to kick in the sense switch.

appreciate any help, have to ask questions before I start breaking things:D

They are extremely simply and work very nice. I had one on my mustang, just had the one wire setup. I didn't mind revving the car to 1k rpm to kick it on, it idled at 800-900 anyways. I think i had to grind a little bit off my alternator bracket to get it to fit, but wasn't a big deal.

I just had the same problem. It's because the 2.9 and the 4.0 have odd mounting points(check the Tech Library alternators section). Apparently all of the one wire alternators have mounting points that just won't work with the 2.9. I have a post in the 2.9 forum hoping to find someone that can fabricate a bracket that allows for the standard alternator case style. I also sent an email today to Powermaster and am waiting for a response.
Please let me know if you've found an answer to your problem.

I made a bracket out of flat steel to extend the stock one about four inches,
ugly but it works.

How about installing an overdrive pulley? That should cure the problem.

the one i bought was defective and over charged my battery. probably an isolated incident tho.

What amperage was the original ?

If the difference in amps output is too big between the old and new, then a new wire from the alternator to the battery is needed and a new ground wire from teh battery to the engine/frame.
