"New" normal highway speed

This is the best i can find in regards to older vehicles. Granted they were hitting compacts but the fullstzers all took the hit like a champ, the LTD did get some minor passenger compartment deformation but all look very survivable.

No hoods went thru windsheiids, no massive deformation, nothing scary.

I stand by what i said. Besidea surviving any massive crash really comes down to luck of the draw.

I fully understand where you guys are coming from but i trust my safety more in a tank then a pop can. Id rather take a head on in either of my F250s then in the wifes escape. Anyday.

The ranger is the only one i feel a bit vulnerable in but thats mostly due to size.
and hell....this one too....granted its a 80s escort but shows why stiffness matters...

Dude. No one is hunting down 1980s champs to drive around....or escorts....or any of the few remaining subcompacts....your ability to remain in the 1970s...is astounding .

We knew they were junk then.

They are even more dangerous on today's roads because they are literally competing with tanks compared to 70s junk ... Nothing from the 70s is stronger then anything today....in terms of survival...

I mean...after you die in it..maybe the next guy can still drive it or get more parts of it....could be a good point .

Odds are, if you get into a head on...same as my coworker a few months ago....with say a new minivan .... And your in your Ltd or old 250.....your hamburger.....

They will likely be able to open doors and recover mom and her three little pigs from a Odyssey if there was a horrible accident with the ol 250 or land yacht....

those older vehicles don't survive modern tests at all. What you are looking at from the past is past.

No one suggested a old POS econobox was safe....they are not, and that is patently obvious....

But new ones .. destroy those old cars

My truck is ridiculously unsafe compared to a modern vehicle.....

..if I keep it...

when I finish its next scheduled cage upgrades....it will hold up fine ...but kill me faster...in a typical road wreck. But be salvageable after it kills me at least.

This is a large factor as to what I will do for long term....the next gen 22 ranger is a better machine for the times...well next ten years....And it's ability to allow myself a snowballs chance in hell going up against modern electric suvs in an unfortunate wreck.....especially as aging naturally weakens us....is looking good.

So technically....my truck.....the rotten rust belt POS it is..... is safer like it is. Because the cab will fly off in a bad wreck....

Crazy ....but likely. It's hard to admit that...but it is what it is

For now...like you....I just hope in one hand and shit in the other praying a modern vehicle don't hit me head on....when cruising in my old junk.

I think today's cars and trucks are more comfortable at higher speeds. When I first got my new Ranger I found myself over 80 mph a couple times and had no clue I was going that fast.
I changed the oil and rotated the tires today and was thinking "those are some big friggen' brake rotors". Not looking forward to replacement cost when I need brakes.

Brakes...on our big trucks...6 to 900 doing it myself.

The other pusher couldn't do brakes ect ...2200 for brakes on a 2019 350....it needed everything...calipers pads and rotors. .. and they still fawked up the bleed job.

Forscan wasn't much help on that . .I used an x link and got it right....

So .... I hope the rangers are better

They will likely be able to open doors and recover mom and her three little pigs from a Odyssey if there was a horrible accident with the ol 250 or land yacht....

another one for safety of newer vehicles.... as of 2019 when I read the article on Jalopnik or Motor Trend, the Honda Odyssey was the only minivan to not have an occupant die in a crash. 9 model years of no deaths.. so that either tells us Odyssey drivers are the best drivers on the planet (and I can tell you from my experience with the ones in Indianapolis that is huge load of horsesh!t, in fact at least 80 percent of them need to have their license pulled) or the Odyssey has some amazing crash avoidance tech (maybe) or they are built extremely well and protect the occupants much better than any other minivan. I find this the more likely reason.

If I gotta haul my 2.5 kids, wife, and dog around, I would get an Odyssey over a 1970's or 1980's full size stationwagon any day. I would own the stationwagon for cool factor and as a toy not a daily driver to haul my family around

I respectfully disagee with all of the above statementss aimed at me.

Ive made my points, take it or leave it. Riding ontop of steel C channel and good thick everything is better then riding ontop of some crappy formed sheetmetal.

Well....

As project farm says ...

We are gonna test that..

You have made no points.

It is not theory.

It is tested.

There are results.

Not just perfect off sets.

But the record of motor vehicle accident actuals.

Actual results

What happened

And yes....

I drive on

Knowing I am in danger

So Far, So Good, So what?.?..

Cause Dave rocks

Show me a actual accident between a 70s fullsize and a modern whatever. Its not tested...its basically theory cause its never been tested and recorded.

People survived plenty of wrecks in the 70s too

There are in a video posted....I can't pull the one off the the fei ...I tried.

There are quite a few collanade and m chassis vs minivans.

Post 2008 minivans are well done.

I got a ticket for doing 112 in a 65 once. Apparently the cop was fallowing me for 4 mile before he got up to me. By the time I saw his lights I had slowed down to 70 or so. Gave me a reeming for sure. Of course it was 2am, and we were the only two people on the highway at that time.

On that same road I called and reported two “white sedans” racing through heavy traffic in a construction zone. Must have been time to clock out.

I also seen a state trooper in a marked car swerve around an accident that just happened and keep in truckin’. It was raining, so who could fault him. I had to stop and make sure no one died.

The Pennsylvania state police is bad Joke littered with corruption and sprinkled with nepotism. God bless ‘em.

As someone who visits a lot of accident scenes every year, (I’m one of the few in the county who tow in the sheriffs impounds. We’re only called in if someone dies and they’re going to press criminal charges.) YOU’RE WRONG... there’s no other way to put it. There’s no pretending that it’s even close.
If I pull up to a scene and there’s a 70’s or 80’s car, any make or model, I know what car I’m there for. I’m there for the other car... because the person in the old boat was killed.
Normally, I’ll argue with your opinion on reliability, power, etc, but not in this case. None of our opinions mean anything in this case. It’s a simple fact that new cars are designed from the ground up to be safer.
