New Noise after new Slave...

I replaced the slave cylinder on my '97 2.3 4banger 5-speed a year after a complete clutch job. I believe I had a seal go out on me. Anyway, i've got it all back together and working better than before....However.....

I have a new noise. This is a "circular" or "spinning" noise that sounds like it is nearby the slave cylinder (from the drivers seat). Here is my best description.

Driving down the road, in any gear, but most noticeable in 2nd. Press the clutch pedal and it is still there. So now I am coasting IN Gear. Move the tranny to Neutral...It Goes Away!!

The sound is "circular" and has a frequency relative to speed. In neutral, in gear, it decreases with decreasing speed. It is not grinding or screeching.

Any thoughts or questions? Ideas?

i know exactly wat you are talkin bout because my m5od makes the same sound. i havent quiet figured out wat it is but the best i can think it is is that all the lil gears that are inside the tranny are just getting worn thus making more noise

Possibly, but this started only after I replaced the slave cylinder. most definitely not before.

Throwout bearing

Did you replace the throwout bearing when you had everything apart? Thats what makes that sound you are describing. Does the sound go away when you press in on the clutch and then come back when you let it out in neutral?

yeah a bad throwout bearing makes that sound almost like a humming or buzzing sound.. A bad throwout bearing will eat that new clutch

No Humming, buzzing, grinding. I don't feel it in the clutch, shifter, or seat.

Ok...A clarification to my situation. I replaced the slave cylinder. My understanding is that the throwout bearing is included in the unit that I replaced.

Now...two scenarios that I hear it.

1. NOT moving, engine running, transmission in Neutral, clutch pedal out (clutch engaged). I hear the sound.
-This tells me it is in front of where the shifter.

2. Moving, engine running, transmission in gear, clutch pedal pressed (clutch disengaged). I hear the sound.
-If I move the shifter to Neutral, it goes away. Back to gear, sound comes back.
-The sound is relative to speed (the rearend speed)
Also....I thought of this since my last post...I replaced the transmission fluid with the Lucas replacement and the remainder with ATF.

I am wondering if the scenarios I am describing pinpoints the location. It seems to me that it is in front of the shifter and behind the clutch. Could it be the front end of the transmission making noise from the change in fluid? Did I torque bolts too much on the install? Is my new part malfunctioning?
