I saw a sales flyer for the new Mustang and the V6 model is no longer a 3.8L it is a 4.0L and looking at the hp rating I'm thinking it's a Ranger/Explorer OHC motor. Anyone know for sure? It has a 5 speed manual so I'm wondering what tranny that is? Anyone know? I figured at some point they would replace the 3.8 with the DOHC 3.0L so I'm surprised by this. The trend has been do more with less so this kinda goes against the trend. RB

The Mustang got the 4.0 in '05. I believe it's the same basic engine from the Explorer/Ranger. I have an '05 with the 4.0/AT and I like it. Some of the Mustang guys are really cranking out the power with them.

If it truly is a RBV engine this will be huge for us in what becomes available in the after market. RB

It is the same engine as the Explorer and Ranger. I don't know about the tranny.

im pretty sure it uses the m5od in the man, but i think it uses a c4 or c6 in the auto not fo sure tho just something i heard

The C4 Died in the early 80's and unfourtantly the C6 left us in 96.

It is probelya 5r55e.

Wonder if the mustang 4.0 in the last 2 or 3 years have had any probs with the timing chains....

really?? then that dumb ass sales man lied to us when he said my dads 04 3.0 had a c6, bastard; and then he tried to tell us they didnt make rangers with man. locks and windows but guess what i just bought one lol (he dont work at the dealership any longer gee wonder why)

IIRC it's a T-45 manual. 5R55E auto...

It doesn't use the 5r55e. It uses the 5r55s I believe. There's the 5r55e, 5r55s, 5r55n, and 5r55w, and they're used in the Ranger, newer Explorers (v6 and v8), v6 Mustangs, and probably v8 automatic Mustangs too. I forget which trannies are used in which vehicles, but I know there are all of those variations, and they're not all closely related like you would think. Some of them have almost no interchangeable parts.

The after market is there since the day they hit the showroom floor. They can really be made to run strong. It's kind of like comparing the Explorer 5.0 to the Mustang GT, same motor but different cam and computer.

stock in a mustang im not impressed .. my ex had a 07 mustang that she let me drive alot and just wasnt no GT but with a little work i bet they would be fun

Yeah the girl has an 07 mustang with the 4.0L, and let me just say it has a little more gettyup then my Ranger with the 4.0L...gotta love a Ford!!!:icon_thumby:

I've driven the 4.0 'Stang at work, and they have ALOT more pep to them than the 4.0 in the Rangers. Just goes to show you what a little tuning and head/cam work can do.
