Hey all, lets get down to business.

The specs.
98 Mazda b3000
3.0L
Getting to the end of a re-manufactured motor swap

First off i have this wire over by the engine firewall that is green with a white stripe that i dont know where it goes. I suspect it goes on the distributor assembly because the ERG VRS has two nubs that look like it would go on it. but even then which nub?

here is a pic.

Next issue is when i try and seat the Upper Intake Manifold my fuel line that runs to the fuel rail gets in the way and wont let me seat it right. What did i do wrong? how is that supposed to work? UGGGHHHHH.

Also where does the crankcase ventilation hose go???

Lastly i cant seem to find out how to wire up my starter... i should be able to but i really dont wanna mess up and find out the hard way. soo... can someone help me out there?

Im on spring break and REALLLLYYYY want to get this truck done before i have to go back on Sunday which is only 3 days away....

HELP!

I am not going to be any help on your specific questions, but I do have a couple of my own - How are you going to put oil in it with the fuel line keeping the oil filler cap on? Also if that line is as close to the cap as it looks wouldn't the engine torque put additional pressure on the line?

Green and white wire goes to the oil pressure switch.

I am not familiar with the 3.0 engine bay but that fuel line routing doesn't look right. It looks more like something that I would do with something I rigged up than something the factory would do. Also, why is your oil filler in the wrong spot? You know you have your valve covers on backwards? Given the shape of the 3.0 intake fixing THAT might help your intake problem.

EDIT: Looks like that vent hose goes into the oil filler on the valve cover. Bet you have an easier time finding it's home once you put your valve covers on the correct sides.

Starter, yeah, you should be able to figure that out. If you can't I am really not sure how you managed to get an engine out and back in.

Anyway, take the red cover off, put the starter back on the engine, and find it's two wires. If you manage to put them on backwards and actually make the small one fit over the big terminal then put down the wrench and go call David Blaine, you need to be his new assistant. Then put the red cover back on, or don't, it's not that important.

Yes, reverse valve covers.

Starter, big red wire from battery(on big post), small red wire from key switch via clutch pedal or automatic's NSS(on small post)

Should be an interesting first start up

Showed your pictures to a guy at work who is more familiar with the Ranger 3.0s. He said your fuel rail is in backwards too. Line connection and pressure test port go at the front of the engine.

I second that, the few rail is backwards bleeder valve should be forward. If you did not find the green wires home is may be heater/AC wire, I know I have seen similar on my 2002 ranger 3.0. If you still have trouble PM me and I will look in mine/my sons ranger and tell you.

So i sorted out all my fuel line, valve cover and starter issues. Thanks for the help there. I laughed when i read your posts as they were informative and highly entertaining at the same time.

My next quest is to tackle some wiring and vacuum gremlins. more so with the UIM than any thing else.

Here is a pic of my engine bay at the moment.

(The UIM is just sitting on top not connected, i want to make sure i know where everything is going before i actually attach it.)

My main questions are with the wiring up at the front of the engine, I have a wiring diagram and have been pouring over it but some things are still confusing.

This is the area i am talking about. Im narrowing down things as i go but sometimes is hard to see where the wiring diagram is pointing to.

As for the UIM i need to hook up all the vacuum lines ect... As of now im going out after dinner to work on this some more but its all a bit in the clouds atm.

so where to the two vac nubs shown in the pics below go???

one is on the front and the other is near the back.

Also on the egr valve assembly where do the two vacuum ports hook up too?

I feel silly asking really simple questions but ive put in 40+ hrs on the truck this week alone so any help is appreciated

Right now i just have to get this all sorted out,
- figure out where that stray green wire goes,
- put on the spark plug assem and make sure things are correct.
- put in all the fluids
- bleed the brake lines
- prime the oil pump
- start her up!

Edit// hope those links work now!

Pics no workie.

Take the photobucket IMG tags and past them in your posts instead of posting links.

So i have narrowed everything down except for these three little wankers.

- the second nub on the egr valve assembly as shown here...

- still that damn green wire in the back by the firewall on the passengers side. can someone see what the eff this goes too??? i cant find anything...

- and finally this hose underneath the UIM... cant find where it goes, it almost looks plugged but the middle is just soft foam or something.

Last picture looks like the PCV Valve with hose attached, it goes in a hole in the top of the valve cover, hole has rubber gasket.

Top picture looks to be the DPFE sensor hose connections, DPFE sensor monitors EGR/exhaust pressure.

Middle picture.........OH MY GOD.............you FOUND Flight 370!!!!

Joking......if above previous answers for that green/white wire don't work then not sure, they would have been my best guess's as well.

So I've been looking around the fsm and the wiring diagram books and I can't find the oil pressure sensors position. There is only one picture in the fsm and it looks to be on the opposite corner of the engine from the wire down by the crank pulley on the side of the motor.

I'll check over my wiring diagram book to see if wires match up for a/c or heater.

I still need to find the matching hose for that second nub on the egr valve assembly. Usually the UIM isn't that bad of a job but this truck has been a long time coming and its been quite sometime since I took the UIM off.

I'll be working on the truck most of today sp post up here and I will keep tabs on the thread.

I had very little trouble getting the harness back where it belonged after a clutch + Wye pipe removal. Ford didn't waste an inch of slack in their wiring and plumbing. Take the wire/ tube/ hose and hook it wher you know one end goes, Look around the area within its reach. You will find where it goes. I discovered this working on a CRV. The harness is idiot proofed. Plugs fit only one thing within their range. I found that Rat uses the same method.:D

I am thinking that green wire is hooked up to a broken nub on the heater, a/c box? over on the pass side attached to fire wall. that is about the only place it could possibly hook up too and the nub looks broken... I can live without heat or A/C i guess should this thing ever get going.

On the vacuum subject. in the picture i have a hose running from the DPFE sensor going to the EGR pipe already. I dont have an extra hose to run to the other nub nor do i have another place to put on of my current knowledge. Its baffling because obviously SOMETHING goes there...

basically everything else is ready to go.

If someone else has this engine would you mind checking what yours is hooked up too? I'm at a loss for what to do right now.

Get another DPFE hose

I still think that's the oil pressure switch.

- and finally this hose underneath the UIM... cant find where it goes, it almost looks plugged but the middle is just soft foam or something.

PCV hose. It turns down 90* and goes in that hole right below it.
