In the '80s, I had an '83 with the 2.0l engine and 4sp manual. Sold it around 1990 and always regretted it, so when a deal came up for a clean 2006 (2.3l/5sp), I couldn't say no.
It's interesting how the Ranger evolved over the years - the '06 is much more refined than my '83 was, but is still very much the same Ranger that I remember from 30 years ago.
Hopefully, Ford instilled some of that mojo in the new '19 Ranger. We'll see...
