Hello All,
I need a little help. Master Cyl went out on my 99 Ranger. Replaced and bleed the brakes twice. New fluid to each wheel and no air. I get brakes until I stomp them one good time and then they go out again. I suspect that the ABS pump is full of air and that is what is causing the problem. When I jam the brakes it is loading the system with air.
Any way to activate the abs system and bleed? Do you think this is the problem?

I may be off base on my synopsis here so any suggestions are welcome.

Did you bench bleed the master cylinder BEFORE you installed it?????

There has got to be air in the ABS system. Anyone know how to beed it out?

The dealer had the ABS service bleed tools.

I wanted to close this with the solution. It was not infact air in the system at all. The rear tension spring for the self adjuster broke allowing the whole self adjustment assembly in the rear drum to come loose and float arround. I pulled the drum off and parts cascaded to the ground. After trips to a couple of autoparts stores, I have full pedal. Master cylinder was never bad. Lesson learned. If you get into the drums, replace the springs. I had a wheel cylinder go bad and the stress of taking it apart evidently weakened it to the point of failure. Problem solved. On the plus side the brakes are well blead after that!

Everytime you take the rear brakes apart, it is a VERY good idea to replace the hardware with new stuff.

Do you have 4 wheel ABS? Not sure if that year had that.

I agree with Sasquatch_Ryda. Also, you may want to purchase quality parts. Try to stay away from Chinese made parts. I know its becoming increasingly difficult to buy US made stuff.
