New kid, 84 prerunner ranger

i'm glad you bought that truck. it's been for sale forever and at a great price. it needs some tlc but you'll be glad that your starting with a working prerunner, instead of building from scratch.

Well here in vegas smog laws are pretty lax but still dont want to push my luck

Most dmv's consider rangers and explorers to be the same class or model of vehicle. Expo's came with 5.0's stock. So smog shouldn't be a problem. lol. But, to be safe, drop in a 4.0 and call it a day.

Yea, for 2800 I dont think I could have found much better of a deal. It will serve its purpose alot of the problmes are little things that just require some time and convincing.

I think you'd be surprised what a little IHI turbo from the 87-88 turbocoupe would do for your 2.3. Go turbo man.

haha you bought that from a dude from nellis a guy in the shop next to mine drove it around. it looked awesome and i wanted it. have fun with it man

No, I picked it up from a guy way out in north Las vegas. He had bought it in hopes of building a race truck but decided he wanted to go with a newer ranger and start from a stock truck.

I'm looking into building something like that. Nice truck man. If my 85 only looked like that. I'm gettin there. SOMEDAY!

hey if you want to know the history of the truck let me know.... this was my one truck that i regret getting rid of. i built the motor in 07 and it was putting down about 180-200 hp when new. it was named"ol'yeller" and if you search out on dezertrrangers, you find a few pics and threads.
have fun with this and if you ever decide to sell it let me know.........:yahoo:
im glad it showed back up i was wondering what happened to it.
oh by the way those ss fab stickers are me and have been on there since 03-04.....lol

i was a member of the board YEARS AGO it was a great site then and looks to be still!

I almost acquired this truck last year. It does have history..

haha thats funny. i have sold it, traded some stuff to get it back, traded again for a bronco, then got it back and then traded it for the bronco i have been building for the last 4 yrs... i love the truck and i hope that someday it makes its way back to me :)
not yet though i want to see others enjoy it too....haha

This is my account that I use now dont remember the the info for lilgear plus I feel this is a better username.

Decided to keep the truck and make a "few" changes here are some updated pics.
I decided to get rid of the stock bed because it kept falling apart everywhere. Not being able to afford glass just yet I cut the stock bedside skins off and made mounts for them.
Also you can see in the pic below I built a mount for the fuel cell no more ratchet straps there is 2 steel straps that bolt on to hold the cell in but I had it out because I was welding right around there plus it makes a good tool/beer holder. and the whole mount can unbolt and come out if I ever need too.

This picture was taken before I made the center mounts and pulled them out.

I got a killer deal on some 2.5 16in piggy back FOA shocks the old mounts were at a straight 90 degrees so I cut them off and made the new ones with the shocks leaning back 15 degrees the back is cycling 16 with the junk pack I put together on none flipped shackles I dont know how but I measured and remeasured its 16. Here are some pics

Now for the good stuff I kept breaking the hoops off that came with the truck seemed like I was welding them back together and plating them every 2 seconds. plus the size of the shocks they could accept was limiting my travel so I decided to make some new hoops I pulled the old 14in 2.0 smooth body foxes off the back and started mocking things up I wanted to build them to make sure when I could I could convert over to a coil over with nothing more than changing the shocks and cutting the coil buckets off.here is
the finished product 16.5 on a coil bucket. And that is strapped a full inch and a half before the coils come unseated.

after all that I decided I needed to build a new front bumper but after weeks if not months of searching I couldent find a bumper that wrapped all the way around the front that I liked so I decided to go with this. I have tube too tie the top of the bumper into the rest of the cage too make it a lot stronger.

Also I got a wire wheel and took off all of the rhino lining on the tube work and primed it and painted it all semi gloss black.
Also since then I got rid of the old carb but a webber DCNF40. headers to 2 1/4 to a flow master 40. new intake gasket matched the intake and head and put a m5rod1 trans off a sohc 4.0 "nightmare". went down to 32.5 11.5 wrangler mtrs.
I also bought some new doors with working locks and windows plus ohhh yeaa door panels. had to do a little trimming to make them fit with the cage.
