so i just started working at a place vulcanizing rubber hoses. the pay is good i start out at 12.11 an hour i work ten hour shifts 3pm-1am. has anybody had experience with this type of job and do you have any tips.

my freakin hands are so raw from handling rubber.

I agree, gloves sound like a good idea.

Can't give you any other tips though, never did that kind of work.

perhaps no gloves as they would interfere with his dexterity?

no gloves, when they come out of the oven we use towels to protect our hands when we pull the hoses, but when loading the hoses on to be vulcanized and sorting the hoses out and stocking fresh rubber no gloves. which is what makes my hands raw, once my hands re-callus it probably wont bother me. and have to be in at 5 today which means getting up at 300am, cant wait to start working 3-1.

when i worked at a lumber yard we used some thin gloves with a very tough lining on it that was almost like a 2nd skin.

they stand up to abuse pretty good and last a long time

So you put pointy ears and Bowl cuts on rubber hoses?

congrats on the job! i'm sure you'll do fine. sure is nice to have regular money coming in. are you working 4, 10-hour shifts? i used to do that and loved the 3 day weekends.

yes i am but after my training with the increase in production i could be working up to 60hrs a week  . where did you work at?

Rockin, where do you live?

Sounds like my cousin's old job at Plumley Rubber in Paris, TN.

i was gonna suggest these also, i've used all sorts of different ones (different brands i mean). the stanley ones from wally world suck ass, plus they are alot thicker. good thing is that they have some grip and they're thin enough that you can still have some dexterity with your hands.

That's What She Said...
nice.......

congrats on the job, $12.11 is pretty good, i'm a parts manager at autozone and i only get $10:annoyed:

Another good set of gloves are the Red Wing Heavy Duty ones made by Ironclad.

Good stuff.

many, many years ago, i was the chemical color mixer for a company that made water bed sheets/comforters. 4, 10-hour shifts and i loved it. that was almost as good as one assignment i had in the military where you did 16 hours on and 48 hours off. weekends it was a 24 hour shift but you got to sleep. that was sweeet!

im from north east arkansas but im working in poplar bluff missouri. I work at gates making new rubber hoses for bigger trucks and and replacement hoses for other vehicles.

If you look at the letters and numbers stamped on your hoses and it says EBP or EBP0 then it was made in our plant. i thought it was a cool thing to know
