Replacing my ignition cylinder to troubleshoot intermittent wiper issues and a spinning cylinder. Old came out fine. New one doesn't go all the way in but I'm still able to start it, engage lock release, and remove key. When I take the key out and open the door the dinging comes on and doesn't turn off until I disconnect terminal.

What am I missing?

Tried this thread but didn't help.

Thanks!

I just replaced mine with a non OEM replacement as well, mine has about the same gap I believe it's just the difference in parts, as long as the pin in the bottom seated properly it's in.

Hmm. I wonder if it's contributing to the door chime problem (chimes even when it's not supposed to), though I've had that problem a long time.

My doors don't chime so I'm unsure, although that sounds more like an eletrical error in the doors/latches

The reason I associate them is that when my old cylinder would spin I could get the chiming to stop by spinning it to a "just right" spot.

Replaced mine on my 1996 XLT a couple years ago. Mine looks about the same as yours. Mine every so often will get out of "sync" and the key won't line up correctly and I can't turn the ignition. When that happens it takes me a couple of minutes of finagling with it to get the key to finally fit correctly and able to turn the switch. So far it hasn't irritated me enough to change it out again, but it might be on the horizon.

In the van I use at work, I get that chime if the door is open and the key is in the ignition. My Ranger has 0 options (which is why I bought it) so it doesn't tell me that at all, twice to my dismay. I now carry a key in my wallet. Anyway! I would check your door switches. They should be NO (normally open), breaking contact when the door closes. I don't know if the Rangers that do this are driver's only chime or if both cause it, but manually pressing the switches may tell you something about their condition.

Personally, I hate those dingers and usually disconnect them in my trucks. When I’m in and out of the truck hooking up a trailer or something I don’t want to listen to that noise.

I also carry two keys to whatever truck I’m driving all the time. I’ve taken to putting one set on a carabiner to clip on a belt loop and one set goes in a pocket. The carabiner set is my primary and the pocket set is the spare. Also keep a spare or two at home and my parents either have a set or access to a set, so really difficult to lose all of my keys, lol.
