Hey Im Geoff. Just got my first ford which is a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4. Traded my previous car for it.
I was born and raised West Texas but I am now in South Eastern Kansas going to college to get my bachelors degree of Applied Sciences and Technology in Automotive Technology with an emphasis in Diesel and Heavy Equipment.
The ranger is going to need some work. When I got the truck it looked like it hadn't been washed in a year. After a nice wash and wax it looks brand new... almost. It was in a wreck some time in its life so it has a replaced primer bumper and a small dent on the hood, new passenger headlights, and dents in the passenger finder, but the frame is good and straight. It does have two CEL's,p0153 and p0401, that the previous owner tried to hide from me by disconnecting the light bulb. Im also pretty sure that the power steering pump is on its last leg. Other than those and a few other little things the truck seems to be in pretty good shape. :icon_cheers:

welcome to the boards

The p/s pumps on these things are known for making noises. If it's working and not leaking, don't worry about it.

Yea my p/s pump is kinda noisy. and it isnt bad looking check out ebay if you want a chrome bumper and valence you can get them pretty cheap. and welcome and have fun

Yeah Ive read that a lot of people have problems with the p/s, and mine is leaking but not too bad. Still turns alright.
Did notice something new today. Both of Goodyear Wranglers on the front have belt separation in the same spot in the sidewall...(visible in picture of passenger side)

Beautiful truck, man. Very nice find. Welcome to the forums, I look forward to seeing more of this Ranger =].

Thats just the nature of the p/s pumps on the Ranger, and just like a bunch of others out there, mine groans too. Just replace the belts tensioned and replaced and change the p/s fluid regularly, and it should last a god long time. Not a bad looking vehicle you've got there, and welcome to the pack Geoff!
