New here would like to know info on possible swaps

Just got this its a 1986 ranger 2wheel drive would like to know possible swaps i could do and modifications to making any swap fit i do have the 5speed trans but not in the truck for the 2.3 motor

There has been pretty much any engine installed into these trucks, going from turbo 2.3 to the 460 BB. Most common v8 is a 5 liter from an explorer as the explorer has the same frame and suspension as the ranger. The FEAD [front engine accessory drive - water pump and other brackets] lets the engine sit in the bay without moving the rad. Most common v6 is the 4.0 liter from 1990 and up. the 2.3 trans will not fit any v6 block. The 3.0 will not fit any other block. The 2.8, 2.9, and 4.0 share the same bellhousing bolt pattern.

I wouldn't mind putting a v8 in it one day in if i did would there be any major places for clearance on firewall in anywhere else but having that trans probably try to find a 2.3 back in it

But very clean truck for 500 bucks like to kept it cheap but if i find a good deal on a v8 near me would go that route first thing i wanna do is to find 2 more of those back wheels

Personally I would look for a 2.3 turbo engine. You already have a trans that fits so would be the cheapest option, and should be good on gas too.

Yeah probably the route that gonna happen if i can find one around here what the best year to look for of the 2.3?
