Heya! I'm Dave, over half a century old, mechanic all my life. I've owned cars and done lots of truck mods for others but never for myself. Always said if you're gonna get a truck, get a Ford, and now I've got one! 91 Ranger 4x4, 5sp, 2.9 with what appears to be 44K (could be 144K, but runs too good). Looks like most of her life was a ranch truck and the bent Xmembers show it. Had it pretty much dropped in my lap for $350, drives straight and handles really well, someone did a 3" body lift with larger tires. I have no intention of hot-dogging this thing, I like being able to get over 300K out of anything I own. Being a tech head, I'm usually just read the forums, this is the first forum I'd ever joined.

I'm happy to be here :yahoo:

Welcome to TRS :)

Rangers are good runners and last

Good page to bookmark here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/index.shtml

All the info on the different Ranger stuff, mostly hands on articles by members here.

The above link can also be found at the top of every page here, under top banner click on "Tech Articles"

2.9l was a good little engine, had some issues but nothing too bad after 1987
Ford TFI spark system on the 2.9l could give some trouble as it got older, but easy enough to test and fix.

Thanks kindly!

The tech page was saved before I joined.. lol

I've changed out the TFI on others a few times, as well as suspension, brakes, electrical, drive train, etc.. I won't hesitate to drop this 5sp or diff.. if I need to.. heh. I am, however, weak on characteristics, personality traits, and eating habits of of the 2.9. All I've read so far about it is good, save a few burps and hickups. What I need to find are crossmembers... she got hung up and smacked things a few times. And get the driveline to the shop for balance (and re-phase it, some one failed U-joints 101)

Needless to say, in the week I've had it, the list is getting longer.. little things.. lots neglect.

Anyway, Thanks again, I'm off to read (and search parts) :D
