Hi, Scott! Welcome to the forum. You're in the right place. There are lots of swaps going on around here. So jump in and start reading threads. Also, check out the "how to tech" link at the top of the page. Lots of great info there.

If you want to go for high-end stereo and lighting equipment you should also upgrade the battery. Momentary loads like the spikes from speakers will be powered by the battery, not the alternator. The alternator can't take up the slack fast enough to keep up with a pulsing speaker.

I have found that it is not hard to put a 65-series battery in the 1st and 2nd gen trucks. Flatten down two of the lips and attach a universal tray to the brackets, and put a wider hold down in it. You have to face the posts towards the rad support, but the cables should reach.

Welcome!

I would also upgrade the factory charging wiring (aka Big Three Upgrade). Should allow easier flow and also remove any gremlins due to age.
