Hi guys,

I'm new to Fords, but not new to forums or mini trucks.

I picked up an 87 4x4 XLT supercab with 42K original miles that may be the cleanest truck I've ever seen of this age.

Bought it on ebay, flew up from Texas to Oregon and drove the thing back on that 14.5 gallon tank through the mounts in 2 total days. 43 hours of total drive time.

I'll look around and figure out how to add some pictures. Hopefully I can do this without having to use photobucket or something.

Love the truck so far minus the gas tank and that I need to add AC to it before the summer. It has a few bugs that need working out so hopefully you guys can help!

Best,

Patrick

Welcome! Nice truck! I saw that one on eBay and followed it just to see what happened. Very nice to see who actually bought it.

Welcome to TRS~!

Looks clean...from a distance...hopefully no rust issues as they can be a major repair issue...I would imagine this is either the 2.9 or 4.0...hopefully not the 2.8 but let us know when you post your pics...

You can upload images with premium membership but need to use another site if you don't want to do that...I can't remember off hand what the limit is but I have about 20 loaded and still plenty of room...

I would not recommend photobucket until they fix their access tmes...takes a long time to load images from that site...

There are many others...some of them seem pretty fast...almost instant...

Maybe poke around or post a question in the general section as to what is best...I've had PB for a few years but considering moving everything to somewhere else...so I will be looking soon too...

Anyway...enjoy~

Man that's a nice one I have been looking to do that too fly out buy one drive it back mines pretty crusty both are in fact hopon tax time have a nice pile o money for an adventure and welcome to the best forum ever...

Thanks everyone

Thanks man! I dig your paint job lol.

No rust anywhere on the truck so far as I can tell except for some surface rust on the inside of the rear bumper. I climbed all underneath and around thing thing looking for anything bad and couldn't find much.

Gonna be a pain if I don't get the A/C installed before the summer starts!

Truly remarkable condition! Glad you found that...I forgot that was there...and my comment is not to be taken seriously...

Anyway...2.9 with automatic transmission...very nice...that was what my 88 had originally...if you read some of the stuff on the auto transmission you might get a bit nervous and try to baby that part of it...only those who really torture them have problems....or previous owners who tortured their trucks before selling...but just looking at that one would lead one to think the owner wasn't treating it with anything but love and respect...

I would think...:)

I'm glad you mentioned this since I have been babying this thing pretty bad since I got it. I have noticed that it seems to jump back and forth from second to third when getting on on-ramps and such. If I give it more or less throttle it picks a gear. I read this can be a servo issue and is supposed to be fairly easy and cheap to fix, but I haven't had a chance to check it out much.

Could be the servo but I've never had to work on one. Could also just need new fluid or topped up...

Something you might want to check is the throttle cable to see if there is slack on the pedal end. A bit of slack there might translate into pedal slop...might cause a bit of an issue with applying gas...or just get you to WOT completely.

I thought this was only a problem with the 2.3 but because the cable is stranded wire it can stretch over time and cause pedal slop...easy fix too with a few zip ties.

If not...well, worth checking just due to the age.

i uh.....

uh... i fawking hate you.:thefinger: or i mean i am really jealous of your mint find.

and welcome.

and now for the bad news. the truck never had ac...and it is a pia to retrofit a stock setup in there...

so....i guess you can just give it to me. you dont have to thank me....just drop er off and i will take care of the rest.

seriously though, the ac wont be too cheap to do right, but with that minty beast, it wont be very difficult either.

great score!

welcome to trs. that reminds me so much of dad's truck except his was blue and white same cap design. can't wait to see what direction this project goes.

I once saw on ebay, years back, someone was selling the entire set of used factory parts needed to add A/C to the 2.9l. Maybe ebay or maybe try to work a deal with a junk yard.

HAHA thanks

Whats the best route to go with the A/C? I was planning on finding a junkyard dog and taking everything out of there, then replacing what I had to with new parts, but is there a better option?

maybe lmc.

i been thinking of using a rear unit from a suburban or fullsize van or something since i dont exactly have a stock engine.

you can go the junkyard route for a ac box and the controls ect...then buy an evaporator/condensor/filters/switches and lines all new.

not cheap. price out rock auto, ebay and lmc.
