Greetings. I've used this as an info source for years, but finally registered as I'm in the middle of some big projects (full 4.0 OHV rebuild and manual swap) and could definitely use some additional info on some details. I'll make a new post in a tech forum when I've exhausted a few searches. But it's definitely refreshing to see an active owners community still using a traditional forum to share information. Resources are tough for many of the cars I own as their forums are long abandoned in favor of terrible FB groups, etc.
Anyway, I've got a 98 XLT 4x4 that's been in my immediate family since nearly new. I've owned if for about 6 years now and it's a workhorse we'll probably keep forever between the sentimental value and the current investment. As an enthusiast, I'm much more of a car person, but I've always loved this little truck and quite honestly, it's the most truck I (and most people) would ever really need. It just hit 100k, which seems low to be needing a full rebuild, but apparently it was a victim of all the bad 90s castings, suffering a broken crank snout a few months ago, and then finding both heads cracked between valves and a bunch of other worn out items. The assembled long block is currently on the stand waiting for a few more transmission swap related items to drop it back in. Hope to have it back in service in a few more weeks.
