Hi TRS. im a long time lurker fist time posting and i need your opnions/knowledge asap. My leaf spring broke yesterday and im about to put in an order. But i noticed that my current u bolts are banned/fordged type and the places im considering ordering from only have rod type u bolts. I read alot on u bolts and the consensus is to replace them because they are a common failure point. But i have never heard any horror stories.

So here are my options:

Buy new forged u bolts from dealer (some how cheaper than other places at $60 a pop) for better load distrubution and gripping of axle tube.

Go with the standard u bolts for $10 hoping they wont cause dimples in the axle tube

Or

Clean up old banned ones, make sure they are in tolerance and use then. If not in tolerance go with one of the first 2 opsoins.

So what should i do? Hope to hear from u guys soon. I have been searching for so long and couldn't find any other post or articles that actualy when into any detail.

step up to 9/16 or 5/8....drill out the plates, and dont worry about it.

If the old ones clean up and the threads are good, use em! Failure is rare indeed.

I have a grammatical note to insert here.

Banned: to have been disallowed or forbidden.

Band: a strap or piece, usually rectangular, used to hold something together or closed.

I think you wanted the second one.
