how much bigger is the new f150 vs the 81-96 f150s? dimensions? curb weight?

throwing some ideas in my head

I just got a 2008 F150 STX with an extended cab and 50k miles. Love it so far. No carpet (WTF would a truck want carpet?), Bedliner, AT and a/c. that's it. Since Ford quit putting any engineering muscle into the Rangers for years, it made no sense not to buy it. It gets close to the Ranger's mileage, can haul a GVWR of 11,700 lbs. and 4x8 sheets of plywood just slip in the back. I can haul 6 people if i need too. Rangers were either almost the same price, or had zillions of miles on them. pfft, no-brainer. (flame suit on)

I'll hit you with a fire extinguisher if needed. :icon_thumby:

My '02 feels about the same cabwise as dad's '80 F-350 (same body as a '150) His "new" '05 '150 feels bigger but I don't know it really is.

my folks got an 01 and 05 f-150, the 05 feels bigger too, sure is harder to park... to danm tall for a 2WD, i hate having to climb in the bed...

my dads 08 f-150 had as much or more room in it inside and out than our 96 f-250, both were supercab shortbeds

since the f150 is a fat large pig and hard to park.....there you go..this is why we needs a ranger!

It ain't that bad once you get used to it. My Ranger was a wallowing pig compared to parking my car... its all reletive.

I wish they kept the 300 I-6 like my 88 F-150 used to have... Never EVER had any issues with that engine...

i agree! they can keep all that new crap! theres so much more to go wrong now, and much more costly to fix. the trucks of today youre half afraid to really use, unlike the '77 that went from the dealership straight to the field or woods for some firewood. i can recall slinging split logs from 3 ft away into the back of the truck, no bedliner even. how we ever missed the rear glass i dont know. todays used truck prices are worse than yesterdays new prices. its really outrageous anymore.

Split firewood 3' away into the back of the truck? Is that supposed to be impressive? There are tons of people out there that use their new trucks as trucks.

I like having a truck that has enough power to get out of its own way, gets decent milage, doesn't rattle my teeth out and can cruise at a fairly high speed.

I ran my '02 on the interstate last weekend for a quite awhile ways, with 3.31 gears, 32" MT's and downshifting twice on just about every hill at 73mph I still got 13 mpg. Put the stock rubber back on and it goes closer to 20mpg. The 13 on its own is better than the 'ol '80 F-350 ever put out at its max comfy cruising speed of 55mph with a 4 speed, 4.10's and 31's... which it has to have to pull anything with what power it could muster new...

IDK, after Jim's post about the Ford places trying to sell you an F-150, why wouldn't they? Yeah, a Taco or a Frontier is way, way better than a new Ranger, but I want something from Dearborn. I bleed blue ovals and I'm pretty darn sure I made the best decision.
