so i recently got new coils for my ranger after my JD 6inch lift and i got skyjacker coils and i am not to happy with them i think my coils are to stiff and i was wondering if i need to brake them in or something or is there a cheap way of making it flex better.. i was thinking of disconnecting them and getting a limiting strap but let me no.. please idk what to do

What motor do you have up front?

Skyjacker coils are about as as soft as they get for RBV coils.

Did you not like the James Duff coils that came in the kit?

ive got the 2.9l

i didnt get any coils with the kit no...
could it be something else that is limiting my flexablity ?

I would have sugggested JD coils. They are a variable rate coil versus the flat rate that the Sky Jackers run ( not sure if they have changed that).

Skyjacker's are still linear.

I also suggest JD coils, as the first windings are probably much softer than even the Skyjacker coils.

I am not sure of JD actual PPI numbers on their coils....but I would guess for their variable rate coils (which I have many good things about under the lighter rangers...but not the heavier ones) would be 350/425

Skyjackers are 425 IIRC for their 6" coils.

Your 2.9L is limiting your flex lol.

You need more weight on the front end!

This might be a stupid question but.......are you using long radius arms of any type? Stock arms severely limit flexibility...

Yeah I got the JD long arms and the JD coil buckets with dual shocks

Sway bar attached? Ditch it.

I took the sway bar off.. No sway bar

Remove one shock per side on the front and try that. Might be just too much shock for the amount of weight you're trying to control. If that doesn't work, build yourself a nice heavy winch bumper and install a winch (get an alignment after also).

Adding more weight to the front isn't going to help the front flex better, you would need to weigh the lightweight rear down more to keep it planted better (once a rear tire lifts, neither end is going to flex much more).
Beyond that, your option is to switch to early Bronco or F-150 Superflex coils rated 300PPI thereabouts (240PPI Jeep XJ coils are also an option if your truck is not a Supercab).

As for linear vs. variable coils, I prefer linear coils when flex is what's important (they don't become stiffer as the wheel is trying to flex upward).
Skyjacker's 6" & 8" RBV coils are both in the low-400s PPI (410 is about what they seem to me). I don't know what JD's coils are, but if they do start out at 350 and end at 425, then it might work out to about the same overall flex, though I'm just guessing.
Variable coils are better for high-speed use, as they'll resist bottoming out a little better.

this thread is the closest i have come to finding an answer to the question i have, i beefed up the rear suspension, added 1,100 lb capacity and ive been trying to find some front coils trying for about 500 on each side up from stock, i plan on doing a 2.5-3 in lift and throw some 31s on it, an recomendations for my suspension problem? also trying to find a beter anti sway bar as im not going for a larg amount of flex right now its more for looks untill i get another vehicle and can do some heavier modifications to eventual turn into a prerunner or mud type application .....this is a work in progress some input would be much appriciated, so long as it is constructive

I've heard Tuff Country's coils are well on the stiff side, though I don't have actual numbers.
You might also consider putting air bags inside the front coils for more support.

Why do you want stiffer coils? You carrying around a snowplow or something? I ask because most ride & handling issues can be better solved with good shocks.
