So my clutch in my 87 ford ranger went south and need a new one and a buddy of mine put a napa brand clutch in his jeep and sucked and now he needs a new one... And I have no clue what a good brand is and need help I was planing on spending no more then 300$ on a good heavy duty one from summit..

Can you tell me what a good one is.. I have 2.9 l on 33s and a 6inch lift and I like to 4x4 and I also hall stuff and need a good one... Help me please

Go with a Luk. That's what I have in my truck ('94, 2.3 4x4). I'm pretty sure that it's the direct factory OE replacement.

Oh, you should replace the slave clynender (the one that makes the clutch move) while you're in there.

+1 what Hopman says. I put a Luk clutch in my '90 Ranger and have been happy about it. A lot of people around here have good things to say about them.

You can also take this as an opportunity to upgrade to a 4.0 clutch if you like. I did. When I priced it out, the 2.9 vs. 4.0 clutch were just a few dollars different so I was really only out the price of the 4.0 starter I had to buy over replacing it with a 2.9 clutch since I was planning on replacing the flywheel anyway. There's an ariticle in the tech library if you are interested in learning more about this upgrade. Adsm08 also wrote up a good thread about upgrading to a 4.0 clutch, try searching for his threads and you're sure to find it.

I second that. Get a stock 4.0 clutch, don't bother with anything fancy.
