this truck has 300K miles. I recently had the transmission rebuilt (whining 5th gear, jumping out of 3rd, not going in 2nd)

New Heavy duty clutch was installed---pedal must hit firewall for shifting. When engine is off, shifts are smooth as silk, with engine running, upshifts hesitates----like it is catching on something. Downshifts (like at stop sign) are worse---IMPOSSIBLE to down shift to 1st with engine running---goes into 2nd after MUCH prying and cursing

Sounds like your hydraulic clutch system needs some bleeding.

my trans teacher told us a trick to cure the problem you are having , you are experiencing clutch drag , there is not enough clearance between the flywheel and clutch disc , his solution is simple , get on a decent size hill , put it in forth and try to go from a dead stop , basically burn a tad bit of material off the friction disc

^^^ are you kidding me dont do that shit bleed the system and let the clutch wear in and it will start working better

^^^^ dud , my teacher did tranny work for 15 years , worked for rolls royce for 10 years before that and has been teaching for 10 years , he gets calls from all over the country from people asking him tho fix their problems , and i have seen it where even after we bled a truck 4 TIMES in class , including with a pressure bleeder , that it still had the same problem , we went out and did that , and it works fine

my bro in law is a certified ford mechanic and mine does the same, but it goes into gear, its just pretty hard to get in gear, but we need to bleed the clutch. There is most likley air pockets in there. Id say drive it for a little, if you can get it in and out of gear, and let the air bubble go down to the bottom. then bleed your clutch

yea , bleed first and if that still dont do it , try what my teacher said , as that is a last resort to shve a thousandth or 2 off the clutch for clearance

today I bled the clutch more than a cheap zombie movie---seems to be working fine now----I didn't realize there was a loop in the line
