My credo
Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Plan for it as best you can.
So far, Leer is the only cap manufacturer to make a cap for the new 2019 Ranger (article on models that fit and available options later). There are a couple other manufacturers that say they have one in the works. Anyway, I've had a Leer cap before and liked it, so I ordered one. The cap is a Leer 100XR Fiberglass cap that comes with fixed front window, dark tint glass, interior dome light, insulated roof, recessed LED third brake light, recessed 50/50 sliding windows with screens, fiberglass base rails, J-Bolt installation clamps, and a frame less, curved glass rear door with a single, center mounted flip lock handle standard.

Options chosen are the Acadia Package with Thule Tracker II roof rack system, grey interior head liner, removable sliding window, gear net, dual 12 dome lights, and gas prop switch, pet screen protectors, and a 3-outlet 12 volt power block.

I'm not sure I'm thrilled with the maximum opening angle of the rear door.

Rear door de-badged. I never liked the look and it blocks rearward view.

It's funny that the Leer logo goes so well with the FX4 logo. It looks really good on there though.

Question. Looking at the pics it looks as the hinges for the rear glass almost look like they are automated. Does the rear glass open on its own with out you pulling it open?

The rear door is spring loaded. The release handle is on the middle, bottom. Twist and it pops open. There is a flip open plastic cover for the lock. Time will tell on that but I think after a good cold snap, it’s gonna break.

If it's anything like their previous models... it's gonna break. Although I believe mine is aluminum. I know this first hand... broke mine last year in freezing rain Thanksgiving morning trying to get my fishing gear out for some river fishing in Elk Rapids, MI.

Overall sandman... it looks really good. I sure do like mine.

Thanks guys.

I find them to be rather handy most of the time. I rarely need to remove it for over sized items and it allows me to haul more while keeping it dry than a tonneau cover.

I do still need to get bars for the cab. Even on the 2011, the canoe would hit the roof while loading and scratch the paint. This roof is longer and cap is shorter, so roof contact is all but guaranteed. I like these bars better than what I have on the XLT as well. It took forever to solve the insanely annoying whistling problem on the other ones. No whistle with these.

I really like it, Looks great and functional. I may consider one. Hate to guess what they cost.
Awesome.

Starting price for the basic cap with no options was $1,900 for that particular model. Options added another $1,200. I have no idea how higher or lower the other models are. That particular one was a nicer one of what was available.

That looks good! I like caps for all the reasons you mentioned and more; and have had one on most of my trucks now. In fact my first two Rangers both wore the same aluminum model that was passed around the family for 15 years! Over time the competition will catch up to Leer as you said and prices may start to come down. For right now Leer knows that if you really want one, they've got the market cornered. I like the way you have yours optioned. That's about the same way I'd option one for camping. I started to look at new caps for my F-150 but went used instead and saved a TON of money.
By the way Sandman, thank you for your service.

Thank you for your support.

When it comes to roof racks and caps, unless one buys new, they won’t know if the roof is rated for it. Not that it matters for the 2019. The choice is new, new, or new. So I chose new.

I had a used one on the 2011 at first but Jason couldn’t guarantee that the roof wouldn’t crack and split of I put a rack on it. So, new it was again....
