i got the 2150a feedback carb rebuilt so its like new. put it on my truck and it runs. the problem is its running rich, throttle response is weird now, and it backfires when i shut it off. WTF did i do wrong? Please Help as my Ranger is my only transport.:icon_hornsup:

Most likely you have a vacuum problem. Check all hoses and the base of the carb for leaks.

how do i check the base of the carb for leaks? all the hoses are hooked up right all the vac lines are hooked up too. all is well, hooked up correct. still backfires hella bad when i turn it off.

Adjust the idle air after you time it make sure it is at 10 dbtdc with the spout disconnected. The best way to look for vacuum leaks is with a piece of vacuum hose a few feet long stick one end up to your ear and go around all the gaskets and fittings and listen for any hissing. Reset your computer by disconnecting the battery for 1/2 an hour. Make sure all the vacuum lines are correct and all the sensors are plugged in including the ACT in the air cleaner. Turn the idle air needles out three turns and start it up and check the timing. Once it is up to temp and the timing is good connect the spout wire and disconnect the idle control motor front base of the carb, then adjust the idle air screws for the highest rpm or vacuum then plug the idle motor back in it should idle right down. Make sure the antideisel screw on the drivers side is not touching the throttle lever. Stop the engine the plunger should extend all the way out this is your curb idle. Again unplug the idle motor and then start it and move the motor back and fourth to get the curb idle around 1500 rpm and lock it down then plug the motor back in it should idle right down. You want the antidiesel screw to almost touch the throttle lever when the engine is fully warm it keeps the throttle from closing too far when you let your foot off the gas. Oh yea make sure the choke is all the way open before making any carb adjustments then you can get your choke the way you want it after it cools all the way down all you should nedd to adjust is the high idle the lower screw pointing back at the passenger and the choke spring tension to fully open when the engine is about 3/4 warm. This is not the same as the book says but ti will get you real close to where it should be. Did you do the wet float adjustment before you adjust the carb pull the top off it and measure the fuel in the float bowl you need 0.81 inches from the top of the carb to the center of the fuel a little over 3/4 of an inch real important.

i got the carb from the shop and it was returned to bench settings. i havent taken the top off the crab to check the float bowl measurements. i checked the gasket placement and had to switch the gaskets around to get a proper seal. it runs better but still throttle lag and backfire, tho not as bad. got a buddy coming over today who knows for motors really well. we gunna set the timing and all that. if i still have issues i will post. thank you for the help. oh yeah, is there something i can use to make new carb gaskets? i may need new ones and dont have the money for new.

If ur handy with a ball peen hammer

make a gasket old school..use any piece of paperboard used to make say a "cereal box"? or any industrial paperboard.....and form a shadow of it with the hammer..exact-o it out and voila!

You can get gasket material at most any part/hardware store. Place the flat gasket on the surface you want to seal and take a ball peen hammer and lightly tap around all the edges and holes to mark where you need to cut. I still make alot of my own gaskets cut the pattern with sissors and i use small sockets and a vice to cut the holes put the right size socket where you want the hole and just tap on the socket until it cuts all the way thru it dont take much any flat metal surface works.

cardboard gasket here i come. gunna tackle this job and see what happens, i found a nice piece of "material" good for one and thats all i need.
