New 1988 for me

Hello All,
New member, new truck. 1988 2WD 5-speed plain jane stripper, and it's white.
But not the original 2.3.
I'm in the process of deciphering what I have.

OK here it is. It is a C-code engine, 2.5l, I was not familiar with this engine. It has the M5-R1 tranny.
There is an older 2.3 in it now, with a carb of some sort. I could see a D4 number on the intake.
Manual brakes, manual steering, no A/C. Cloth seats.
I don't see how to ID the trim level, either from the VIN or the door sticker.

Trim level is probably what was called “custom” back in ‘88. Sounds nicer than “base model”.

I found a repro Factory Manual on Ebay. The seller has photos of the table of contents.
I see there is no mention of a 2.5l engine. Was that a late addition/option in 1988 ?
I don't see a production date on the truck. Sequence number is C39574.

There is no 2.5...for that period...there was one with the Mazda l phase in which is an epic engine as well...


2.0 and 2.3.


Damn fine little truck!


Needs an ecoboost....2.3 and 5 speed r1 ftw...

I have a manual out if an 88 that I grabbed at the junk yard a month ago in case somebody wants it. I’ll post pix later after work. $3 plus shipping from 29385 and it’s yours.
