neutral sensing switch??

Okay 87 b2 with no 4low.. BW 13-50 electric (POS i know). I have narrowed it down to the neutral sensing switch which isnt connected to anything, the owner before me switched the tranny from auto to manual obv. didnt do a good job.

Just to make sure.. is this it? and what the hell does it connect to?

Here are the connectors

On the left: Blue and black found under the carpet leading to the tranny hole.
On the right: nuetral sensing switch?? coming off the top of the tranny

not sure but i believe the 4x4 module looks for the transmission to be in neutral and the parking brake to be set before it will engage 4 low.

my advice to you, try to find a wiring diagram for the 4x4 system for both transmissions.

i have alldata at my work, but not sure if it goes back that far.
 
Im pretty sure the blue and black one is the " indicator light electrical connector" from the automatic shift lever housing..
 
Convert it to a manual transfer case and don't worry about that anymore.

Its bypassing the NSS for a 13-54. If its the same 5 plug harness im going to try it tomorrow.

"If your vehicle uses the electric shifting B&W 1354 transfer case, you will not be able to shift the transfer case into 4-high or 4-low unless the neutral safety switch is wired up. I chose to bypass this.

These were the wires on my 91 Explorer with electric 1354.

5 plug harness:
Red/white
Red/blue
Pink
Purple/Orange
Black/Purple

Solder the Pink, Red/Blue, and Red/White together. The Pink-Red/blue bypasses the neutral safety switch. The Red/White allows the t-case to be switched into 4low.

I also chose not to wire in my reverse switch for the back-up lights. You’ll need to evaluate your set-up to decide the best way to go about wiring them up."
 
I never needed to have my tranny in neutral to shift my electric t-case, only had to be stopped and have the clutch in (with my 2.9, FM-146 and 1350), the NSS does fawk with the ECM though, if it's unplugged (thinks it's in gear all the time) it wont rev down worth a shit to shift, if it's wired up in a constant closed circuit it wont shut the injectors off when compression braking. At least that's my experience with my 4.0.
 
It's fine and dandy if you want to bypass the NSS in order to get 4-low, but you better hope that you never "command" 4-low while you are actually driving, or you will break sh!t, or put yourself through the windshield in the process.......
 
okay.. well instead of solding all those wires together.. where does the NSS plug into?


oh and sorry for being such an noob and asking alot of questions
 
Take a look at some wiring diagrams. There is a seperate small harness that's just for the tranny, it should plug in somewhere on the drivers side of the engine bay into the engine harness.
 
I found where it plugs into. it was on the drivers side frame rail.. i cleaned it out and plugged it in and i still dont have 4low.. :annoyed: so i dont know whats next on the list besides a manual 13-50 which is going to have to wait :sad:.. snow wheeling is gonna have to wait till next year..
