OK heres the deal. I have a 1996 4x4 ranger. I did a 33 inch body lift and then threw on 33's on a 15x10 rim. It looks sweet but i have one problem. I can't turn too sharp. I can turn and its good, but if i turn more it rubs, and then if i turn more i can turn past the rub. So if i cranked it it's be turn, rub, more turn. If that long winded explanation makes sense. Anyways i really only need a little bit more lift to make it not rub. Also when i smoke bumps the back rubs a bit too. But all of this is only minor rubbing. I can drive it normally but its a noticeable problem when i go 4x4ing...or turn sharp. So since its not a massive amount (and cuz im poor) I've ruled out a 4 inch suspension lift. So i think i'll go with one of these two things:

i wouldnt add blocks if it were me, you can do the front washers for the front to give you another 1" or find some 2"coils. for the rear you can do an add a leaf but if your on a budget i would pick up some of the chevy drop shackles and that will give you close to 2" the rear.

I second the idea of the Chevy drop shackles - it's a Belltech model # 6400. You can get them at O-reilly's for about $55. They'll give you about 1.5" in the rear.

Then find a Fastenal or other good hardware store and get some washers that are 1-3/8" inner diameter and 3" outer diameter. Stack about 5-6 of them on each side, under the spring mount. You can weld them together for a little piece of mind, a muffler shop might even do it for free since it wouldn't take 2 minutes. The washers I've looked at are .192" thick, so about 5 for an inch. One inch of spacer will give you 1.5" of lift.

This is probably the absolute cheapest lifting method. You should still plan on getting an alignment though or you'll wear the outside edge of your tires.

The blocks in the rear might cost less than the shackles, but I and many others would discourage it because it promotes spring wrap.

if you replace the front coils w a bigger set you will have to replace caster bushings to get it anywhere close to alignment found that out the hard way:headbang:

Thanks for the help guys, i'm more concerned about the front right now so i can turn properly. The coil spacers from either auction will work right? And give me hopefully around two inches? and yeah i'm planning on alignment after. As for the back technically i could do the shackles and add a block (or leaf) if i wanted right? Thanks for all the help cuz im new to suspensions and everything.

amen to that! i built some extended arms.. added 6inch coils.. camber/caster WAY MESSED Up.. bought some adj bushings got it aligned still got messed up... ya cant seem to win one min its negative camber an next its positive..

if your rubbing how about 15x8 wheels? or a shallower backspaced wheel. which would be a numerically higher back spacing.

Numerically lower backspacing. What you mean is negative offset. More backspacing pushes the tires in.

Yeah i was thinking that too but buying more rims and getting them balanced and mounted on my tires and then selling my own rims and such would be a big hassle and expense. I think i'll just get something off ebay to lift the front a couple inches and pray that it helps my problem. I know...im cheap haha
