I have a 1988 4x4 super cab xlt 2.9 with auto trany with overdrive :annoyed:

ok i found a 1988 xlt super cab it has a 5 speed in it how hard would it be to put the 5 speed in to my auto truck and could i just change everything from one truck to the other without changing the computer or what and is there anything else i need to know about it any help would be a help this will be my frist time of doing this thanks :dntknw::dntknw::dntknw:

yes, the hardware will all bolt up if you use the driveshafts too. and if you use an auto a4ld computer with a manual trans what ends up happening is the rpms kind of "hang" when you push in the clutch. somewhere in the tech library is a writeup where you take one of the wires in the harness and do something like run it to ground (or is it + :icon_confused:) and that makes the ecm think it is in neutral as opposed to in gear and cruising, so the rpms are responsive like they should be

i neglected to mention that you will need to bypass the park safety switch lockout in the shifter by connecting the light blue wires to each-other or else the truck will not start

and naturally you will need to use the clutch pedal and master cylinder from the manual truck as well. but you will need to swap the brake pedal because it is too wide for a clutch pedal to sit next to it.

underneath the carpet on the tunnel is a plate that is bolted to the floor, removing it will leave the holes for the shifters to poke through

that should cover it

well going to start the job this week not looking forward to all this work but cant wait till i get my 5 speed in it
