I was in the exact same boat. Started looking for a truck in March 2009. Started just looking at just Rangers. When I got sick of everything good being a flareside, I opened my search to the S10, Sonoma and Isuzu Hombre (which are mostly regular beds).
I was buying the truck as a second vehicle, so I had room to wait for what I wanted. I was also willing, if necessary, to fly in, buy and drive back the truck if it was the right truck.
Then in Dec 2009, I found a truck locally that was pretty much everything I wanted; 4wd, auto, V6, ext cab, AC. Didn't necesarily want power windows/locks but glad now that I have them . Was even my first choice of color and trim (white XLT with chrome bumpers and grille). Was in my mileage range and priced right around trade in value. Was also very well maintained and documented. I had no choice but to jump on it. It was pretty much excactly what I wanted, all I needed to do was trade the camper shell for a hard toneau and add OEM fog lights.
You'll find your truck with patience. Maybe, while you look, you can also price used regular style beds in case you find a flareside that is otherwise too good to pass up.
