need to replace my rack & pin

How much can I expect to pay a shop to have it replaced? also if its leaking and Im keeping it topped off is it ok to neglect it for a while? (gotta save the money first) Ive been neglecting it for a while but now im worried as its developed an odd squeek but only when turing to the left. no shutter, shake, pop, not any stiffer to the left as opposed to the right. just a squeek and the normal pump whine. turining to the right no issue. when it first started leaking I noticed air in the fluid but it was low and I topped it off and turned the wheel lock to lock and havent had bubbles in the fluid sence, as I check regularly and keep it topped off.
So whats a general price to expect to pay to have the rack and pinion replaced? ie parts and labor.
And what other issues can happen with a rack and pinion other than just leaky seals? ie if I keep neglecting it can it escalate to somthing else ie crash and or death from it locking up mid turn

Where is it leaking?
and as far as price your best best would be to find a shop who will give you a free estimate, then use that to compare prices of other shops

mine was leaking 3 years and 45k miles ago..the fluid was crap when i bought it so I turkey bastered it out and got new fluid in there.......I added some lucus power steering stop leak .......it just drips a little now.I might have to add some Mercon every few months now..........i might replace it some day.....rockauto has them form $112-$160.plus about $15 for shipping........I imagine it is about 3 hours labor for a garage.........plus an alignment.............
