need to lift the engine

hey i am changing the oil pan gasket and have every thing unbolted and need to lift the engine, what do i attatch the cherry picker too?????? :icon_confused:

its a 2.9 V6 1990 ranger

wrap a chain around the intake manifold. thats what i done
 
I did as well.
 
Seatbelts tied around the exhaust manifolds works too.
 
some of them have lifting hooks attached already, other wise the intake can be used to suspend it or you can look for empty holes in the sides of the block and screw a bolt through a length of chain and lift it that way.
 
You could lift it from underneath with a floor jack and block of wood. Then block it up under the mounts and remove jack. You ought to block it even if you lift it with a hoist, so it won't be able to possibly drop down while your fingers are in a vulnerable spot.

FEAD bracket holes work well for that too, but onl if you already have to tear it that far down.
