Ive got an 89 Ranger 2.9 and I have been using a 2wd trans from like a late 80s 2.8 or 2.9 but I need to know what trans I can use to put behind this 2.9. The trans I have been using is the old mitzu trans from the 80s. My truck started with the A4LD auto but I converted everything over to a manual. What transmissions can I use for my truck?

I put in a Mazda M5OD R-1 in my 89 4wd Ranger about 5 years ago and it has been great. I got the trans out of a 93 Ranger with 4.0l engine, so I was able to also take the big 10" clutch assembly and heavy duty starter which also bolt right up as long as the donor was 1993 or earlier. You will also need the engine to trans steel plate from the donor. It pretty much drops right in to the 89 Ranger without mods. Good luck.

One out of a 4.0 will work but a 3.0 wont correct.

You need a M5OD from a 2.9L or a 4.0L.
