my exhaust fell off from the catalytic converter back in the middle of an intersection. Long story short, I'm just going to run 2.5" piping to a magnaflow muffler behind the cat and because time is of the essence I'm thinking about just dumping it out the side before the axle and just making sure that the pipe clears well ahead of the rear tire, maybe even put a turndown in tit do it doesn't hit the tire and melt it. Any opinions? Bad idea on my part?

Nope, sounds good seen people do that exact same thing all the time.

did your flange on the cat rust off or was it the midpipe that broke off? regardless it sounds like youve got a plan thatll work for you

how far do you guys think U should go ahead of the tire to be sure the exhaust doesn't heat it up? and the ball and flange rusted off and caused the whole exhaust to fall off in the middle of an intersection and not really make it out so well lol

I have a long bed, but I went without a muffler because i am a fan of the louder exhaust but i just had it come out halfway between the front of the fender and wheel opening and there is no issues with the tire heating up

i'm running 2.5 and a magnaflow. loving the sound. but i did run it out the back and i am running without a cat. not obnoxious loud, but good rumble.

just put a turndown at the muffler right in front of the axle. No need to dump it out the side.

On my mustang I used the flanges from the old cats and welded to the front of the muffler with turn downs it sounds great and eliminates the need for excess piping.
