Carb needs to be rebuilt on the '79 Highboy, but the problem is we have no idea what year the engine is and they sell a different kit for every year of the 300 inline 6.

Anyone know of a way of dating one of these engines?

ask nice and bring it flowers.

Anyway, this is the truck in question.. I just need to find an engine photo. I KNOW I have one somewhere.

sorry...i just couldn't help myself.

there should be a tag on the carb, that will tell a lot.if not,try to get some good pics of the carb,i should be able to identify it.

good-i'll keep a watch for them.....hopefully theres a tag,that'll solve the problem.

as for the truck....the grille is a 79,but the front diff looks like 75 or 76....i dont think they used those later than that.things that age are usually pieced together from whatever is laying around,so it's a bit of a crap-shoot.

Look for part numbers on the engine All ford part numbers start with a letter followed by a number for the first two digits D7 would be 1977 C is for 60s D is for 70s and E is for 80s so C9AA would be 1969. Same goes with carbs heads and block I believe but if you cant find the carb number you may need to take it apart first and match up gaskets and see if it has a one or two stage power valve.

and about the carb it will probably have a tag on it. for example mine says D9A and some other smaller numbers. check yours and pm it to me, or just post it

Don't care what year the engine is, it is very possible that someone has replaced/switched the carb.

Get the number off the carb.

What we were told, was that it was a 1979 F250 Custom body, on a 1976 F250 Highboy frame, with a mid 70's dually rear end. Dad bought it for 600 for a quarry truck, and it's been the best truck he's had in about 20 years so far. As for the engine, were not sure if it was a 76 engine that was put on it because the engine looks like it was replaced.

Just checked the carb, no tag. =[

I'll have to get some photos of it later when I get off work, and then try to figure it out that way.

ok now its making sense, I was told hiboys were stopped in 1977.5. the easy way to check to see if its a hiboy is the divorced tcase and it will have a crossmember right behind the front bumper

Yes it has the crossmember. You can see it in the picture I posted as it has no front bumper. I unfortunately didn't get pictures taken today as I had to work later than I was scheduled tonight.

Happy birthday to me. lol.
