I just put an 89 Ranger Cab on an 86 Ranger chassis. The 89 cab is from a 2wd 2.9 5 speed. The 86 chassis is a 2.9 4x4 automatic. Can I make the 86 AL4D work with 89 manual computer and harness? The 86 harness is toast.

the 89 is going to look for the clutch switches and won't necessarily care about the EGR. i THINK it has pretty much the same harness as the 86 so they ought to interchange. the computers interchange, but have operating differences. use the 89
you'll need some of the auto harness pieces instead of the manual pieces which will be on the old toasty harness. Good news most of the colors stayed the same so butt splices are in order.
get someone with all data to print you wiring diagrams for both years. Have fun, i think it is about a 6 pack of work.
