Need some help identifing a hose.

Hey everyone been a follower of this page for a while owned a 1988 ranger with the 2.9 straight drive 4x4. Anyways runs sluggish no power, starting to move into replacing stuff in the Moyer I have done the pugs, plug cables, distributor cap and clip, map sensor and pcv valvue. I am posting oa photo of a hose that I need some help identifing. Me and the guys can not figure it out. Comes from the air box to the manifold. Anyways gets like 8 mpg also. Any tips tricks and advice would be awesome just let me know. Thanks I’m afvance!!

It looks like the heat riser or pre heater hose. It pulls warm air off the passenger side exhaust manifold to help with cold starts/warm up.
 
Yeah, that's the pre-heater pipe. It's not your problem.

I'd start with checking timing, fuel pressure, and if neither of those shows a problem, compression.
 
Well thanks for steering me in a direction because definitely have some issues the timing seems to be off. My cheap light was showing +1 instead of 10 as the trucks says it should be. Also fuel pressure is showing 20 psi instead of the 30-40. So defiantly have some issues. I’m going to do some more investigating. But that is the latest update. Thanks again for the help!!!
 
I'd start with fixing the timing, I like running it around 12* rather than 10. Then I'd change the fuel filter and check the pressure regulator for a ruptured diaphragm, and if fuel pressure doesn't come up I'd look at the high-pressure pump.
