Since 1996 til today I have always drove a 1st gen Ranger. Staring everyday at that dash(with NO tach) the same controls well over 10 years..... The ONE thing that pisses me off is the LACK of a cup holder, thus drinks will be sitting on the pass seat, on my crotch or on the floor, incredibly will make a messy spill.

So I have tried a few "gadgets" over the years...

Those cheap plastic cup holders that wedge between your door and door window. I've used the cup holders that have a clamp on the bottom.

Several problems I have with these plastic gizmo's:

1. I cannot find a convenient place to install them(I clamped it on my ash tray door, see number two)

2. the holders are not sturdy and move around alot, often spilling contents, or work themselves loose.

My truck also has bench seats, and with a floor shifter I cannot simply put in a console, any ideals for a sturdy permanent cup mount?:icon_confused:

Not sure if this is going to be any help or not...

It's the thread for my subwoofer install, but if you scroll down a bit, you can see what I did with the cup holders.

You might not be interested in that idea, but if you scored a jack cover from an extended cab and popped the two cup holders out, all you would need is a creative place to mount them.

That's the best idea I can offer....

I also have a bench seat with a floor shifter. I took the bench seat out and am putting in buckets. Once that is done, I'm going to build a console with cup holders. I realize that you may not want to do all of this, but it is a possibility.

take the front trim cap thing that goes on the factory wheels around the hubs on the 10 hole wheels (whatever they are called) and screw it to the floor behind the shifter, there's probably just enough room for some size cups if you have your seat all the way back like most people do...

I feel ya... I put a center console in my 1989. I cut the 60 part off the 60/40 seats and it was pretty simple actually.

well, i'm not a big guy so here is what i did. got a new, empty, 1 gallon paint can, lined the inside with foil insulation and foam, and anchored it with crisscrossed small bungee cords to the seat belt straps below the buckles (center passenger ones). took off the bail so the bungee's hooks into the holes left there. it holds a 52oz cup from the local gas stations, keeps the ice in it for hours (had ice in it up to about 6 hours), and really stays put. not in the way really as no one sits in the center of the seat anyway. had to get creative as the dog uses up all the passenger seat and a little more so i couldn't use a seat console really. just a thought.

go buy a cup holder that sits on the floor from walmart, get your ever useful sawzall and start hackin til it fits, that what I did

So, who's truck is it? Yours or the dog's? How big of a dog is it?

Go and get the shifterboot/cupholder set-up from a 3rd Gen Ranger. The cupholders sit beside the shifter, and have removable "popups" for keeping soda cans from tipping over, and notches cut in to the edge to allow for coffecup handles. I have one that I can take some pix of if you want.

my friend has a floor type( like walmart) that is much shorter and is adjustable that would work perfect for me, but i've never been able to find one to buy. i've been thinking of getting one from walmart and trimming it but i'd like it to look better. i think my best option would be a 3rd gen shifter boot. don't know if those will work for a 1st gen
