After reading this In the awesome tech libraries here at thetangerstation:

The hydraulic clutch, slave cylinder/throwout bearing is another item you should pay close attention to. After time, the slave cylinder fails to release the clutch completely. If you are having trouble shifting into 1st and reverse while stationary or if your truck creeps forward with the clutch pedal depressed the slave cylinder/throwout bearing is probably at fault. Unfortunately there is no easy fix here as the transmission must be removed to replace the combination slave cylinder and throwout bearing

I realized that the slave i installed new 2 years ago was crap. I bought it from a local part store that i thought i was getting a deal at.

Anyone have a good recommendation where to get a reliable one? The truck did exactly what this states from day one. The junkyard trans i installed is taking a crap, so i need to pull it anyway. I stopped buying things from this local store and since bought at autozone, but i am leery of them to. Napa? Ford? Thanks!

Personally, I think it's a crap shoot. That being said, I still try to support the local store, buying the higher end stuff if there's a choice.
Have you bled your system with vacuum or pressure?, you may still have air in the lines. Though I have done both and still have the symptoms you describe in my b-II. Glad you posted as it gives me a possible solution I didn't consider.
Keep us updated.

I stopped buying there because nothing i got from them lasted. 4 or 5 starters and 3 or 4 batteries, all on different cars. bought lug-nuts for my ranger there, completely rusted now in a year and a half.

I never vacuum bled, thanks for the tip. I have tried re-bleeding it a few times, maybe last a hour or so.

I don't know enough about how this system [slave/throw out] works to make an informed comment. Sounds like a small leak in the system though, have you had to add fluid?
Maybe someone else has a thought ?
When I get time I'm going to swap the slave/throw out along with the tranny unless I come across something else to try.

it probably is the slave but did you check along the firewall to make sure no fluid is leaking from the CMC. I asked a guy on a nothing website that knows everything about these trucks what he uses. he says the last one he put in was a raybestos. He says the design from the beginning sucked and that it is a weak link of the truck..... that being said i praobabl would get the most expensive brand name one i could..........my 2 cents.

ive gone through 4 slave cylinders i have gotten from autozone and advance but the last one i put in was one straight from the ford dealership here and i havent had any problems

i'm on my third slave now. Original ford one lasted 130k. second auto value one lasted 0k. was bad from the start. now this one has gone about 1k and counting. knock on wood. and when this one shits out. the Truck goes bye bye. Once i get out of the army in a few years i'll have the money for an upgrade :yahoo:
