so my pull my amp out from under my seat cause those big speakers in the back work/no work/work/no work/work/no work....... i had opened up the amp previously and soldered a couple spots so i figured my shoddy work needed to be redone. it was still not no good so i glance around real quick and i see an obviously failed/scorched/burned component that i can't really i.d. There's other doohickeys on the circuit board that look similar but i'm sure they have different ratings like everything else.

i've searched the internet for a schematic to figure out what the part is, however, i learned 2 things that brings me to a direct plea for info from members of the forums:

1: my research skills on the internet have not improved throughout the years, and,

2: manufacturers consider the designs proprietary information so i'm unlikely to find the schematics floating around the web as freely as, say, wiring diagrams for installing the product.

any one possess or know where i can find the schematic for an ORION 280 gx?

Pics of the components that are bad or burned?

the best i can come up with at the moment would be a portion of the following video on youtube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj-230VnfEk

starting the video at the 4 minute point may be the most efficient action as the best views of the component that is gone on come at 4:05, 4:15, and 4:25(min:sec) of the video.[it just occurred to me to use the pause function. yeeeeeep. i have it paused at 4:06 and lo and behold it looks 1000x better than the 20 pictures i tried last night. boy is my face red]

soooooooooooo...... with the video paused at 4:05;

my point of interest is located to the left of the torus shaped transformer.

directly below the solder point for the light blue(lilac?) wire on the ciruit board there is a dark brown or black cylinder. the right side is reflecting light and appears to be beveled.

there is one lead on the left and one lead on the right of the component. the lead on the left is soldered to the circuit board directly below the point that the lead for the light blue capacitor is soldered to the board. the lead on the right is soldered to the board directly below the point where the large red wire coming from the left is soldered to the board.

that's the best i can deliver at the moment and as far as showing the component it's better than i'll be able to show from my amp because when i gently touched a 4" wire tie to it she just crumbled into about 10 pieces.

Okay that's a great shot. Only problem is I cant snap a pic of the screen to make sure but you are talking about the black component that looks like their is a silver stripe on it, RIGHT?

That is a DIODE it only lets power flow one way. Now that I know that I will ask a friend to look up the parts list and find what value it is.

Let me know if that's what it looked liked before it disintegrated on you.

yes, Mazda!!! it looked like the bottom 5 diodes there, albeit a bit distorted by the heat. even though it was misshapen i could still see the shapes of the numbers/letters on the side so i busted out the magnifying glass to see if i could read any usable info. i tried to flex it to the side to get a better view but as soon as the wire tie touched the diode- POOF!

appreciate your time on this, Mazda. i'm pretty much a low-key individual, but when i'm alone i like to pull out all the stops, which includes playing my milli vanilli and abba really, REALLY loud.

Haven't forgot about this. He hasn't got back to me yet about what value the diode is.

awesome, Mazda. thanks for putting out the feelers.
