I was working on truck both rear leaf springs have crack on front eye hook, is this what happens with age? 1998 Ranger 4x4 ext cab 4.0 Amazon has then $99.00 free shipping part #929202 what should I do?:dunno:

Either get those from Amazon or look in a junkyard.

Cracked front eyes can happen, my choptop had one. It could be caused by a defect or abuse or....

I had it happen on my 89 on one side. You might want to get new bolts for the eyes too. Chances are they are rusted in there especially if you live up north.

Sent from my iPhone.

Yep, new bolts and bushings as the old ones will probably be rusted/fused to the old spring. While you are in there, check the integrity of your spring hangers and shackles. another 150 bucks will get you new spring hangers front and rear, new shackles, new bushings, and new bolts for all. well worth it.

where is the crack?

LOL.....good point...it could be easier/faster to grind/punch the rivets out of the hangars and bolt new hangars/springs on !!

This!

some of those eybolts will be a cast iron bitch to remove, and if you are not going to reuse any of the hardware, this is the way to go.

Oh and another helpfull hint..run the gas tank to near empty. I removed the bed on my truck and still had to move the gas tank a few inches so that I could put the bolts for the new spring hanger in on the front driver side.

The crack is on the front end, as it bent around the bushing both sides. The hangers look good no rust, have been spraying PB blaster each day for over a week. I have new shackle kit's, did my 97 and what a B^&%$. Also got new rear Shocks Monroe part # 58618, kind of a spring over. I work at O'Reilly Auto Parts on the side, plus my full time job. My price $88.00 for the set, $28.00 for both shackle kit's. The shocks look sweet, have not heard any bad reviews on them. I will order my Leafs from the Rock plus front KYB shocks. Just a heads up almost all parts that O'Reilly's sell have life time warranty, so just keep the the records.

My leafs were worn from rubbing against each other. No cracks or anything.

I replaced them with a set from the junkyard, 2008 vintage, super low mileage, looked almost new. $100.

I scored a nice clean set from a 90's 4dr explorer from the junkyard... Still had all the paint on em! 100 bucks as well, no more lift blocks, and I'm a happy camper.
