I got water in my exhaust mudding awhile back, and it ruined the o2 sensor, but I dont have the special o2 sensor socket to get it out, anyone know were i can get one? I'll probably get a couple sensors from the junkyard so i dont have to buy one for 60 bucks

Advance Auto rents them, and I suspect the other chain auto parts stores do as well. With Advance, you pay for it up front and get your money back when you return the tool.

I was able to get the box end of a combination wrench on mine...after disconnecting the wires. wrench was not flat, possibly a 10-15 bend.

I also picked up a O2 sensor socket at a local parts store.

7/8 inch wrench will fit the sensor and if the sensor has the newer style plug it passes right through the wrench. use a 6 point wrench and some heat and it will probably come right out.

Mine had the original 25 year old one in it and came right out with a 7/8 wrench without any problems. Put anti-seize on it though when you put your new one in.

Yea i replaced the o2 sensor shortly after buying the truck, and that wasnt hard at all, but that was at my dads friends house, i might have to ask him if he still has his o2 sensor socket

My O2 sensor was in there but good, and I did not want to strip it, so here's what I did . . .

Bought a high-quality SIX-sided, SHORT socket with a 1/2" drive. (I did NOT want to use a long socket to avoid twisting of the socket under high force, which might strip the bolt flats.) Then, with one of those small hacksaws that holds the blade only at one end, I went under and cut off and broke off the old sensor just above the flats of the sensor. I used a good penetrating oil and soaked the threads for two days. Then, using my 1/2" ratchet with a pipe extender, I broke loose the sensor. It took a LOT of force, but broke loose clean, and came out perfectly. Good Luck.

I also cut my O2 sensor in half with my sawzall to get my 22mm socket on it. (7/8ths wasnt as tight as 22mm)

Only problem is, I really damaged the flats with prior efforts with a wrench so it gets no grab now.....

Now I have to take the H pipe off to get at it with a pipe wrench.

Again, many auto parts stores have a free tool rental program so you can borrow a pre-built, well manufactured socket without spending a dime.

This may be true Fastpakr, but I didnt think it was going to be such a pain getting the sensor out with a wrench at the onset. Had I known.....
