Hey guys i have all stock exhaust, and two holes in my muffler so im pretty sure its all rusted inside i want to get a new one what is the best sound? its a 97 2.3 regular cab want to dump before the axle I'm lowered 5/6 so my parking brake cable is been rubbing and melting that's the reason to dump before the axle. i know its a four banger but i want the most decent sound a bit louder than stock thanks guys!
Ps iv'e done research but id like to hear from people who actually have a 2.3 and did something similar.

First off, Its a 4 banger and will always pretty much sound like one to someone who knows. Ive had 4 different mufflers on mine not including the stock.

1st was a walker universal replacement. Not much louder then stock, didn't really like it.

Second was a 26" glass pack. Made it sound like a honda civic/ricer. was really raspy and sounded like a bunch of hornets coming out of my tail pipe. It lasted 2 days before I took it off.

The third, and My favorite, is a Thrush turbo. Had a deeper sound and didn't sound as much like a 4 banger. Ran that for a year and a half before I hit it on a rock and tore it off. Had a little bit of drone in the cab at about 2500 rpm, but not having ac, my windows are always down and I didn't mind it.

Then the fourth, and my current, is I think a flow pro. After butchering my exhaust so many times, I had a whole new one put on at a shop. I've only had it for a week, so Im still not quite sure how I like it, but so far my only complaint is that is slightly more quiet then the thrush turbo. Hopefully when It breaks in it will be a bit louder.

I don't like being so loud that everyone looks at me as I drive by. But I do enjoy the sound of a clean sounding exhaust. Sadly I still haven't been able to find the perfect one for the 2.3 for my taste, and probably never will unless I drop in a 302 or buy something with a V8. Good luck on your search man! hopefully this helps you out.

I have a 2.3 Extended Cab with a Flowmaster 40 with exit out the side before the rear axle like you want.

It is a bit loud on the freeway, not so much around town.

Space is kind of tight on the reg cab so you might just want to go to some muffler shops in your area and see if they will do the exit you want. First question the guy at mine asked was if I had a Extended Cab. Kind of think he didn't want to do it is it was a reg cab.

I would make a video for you to you can hear it but my cat has a hole and it louder than the Flowmaster.

Pics suck sorry, but you get the idea.
