I have a 2002 Ranger with the 2.3L in it and im looking for any mods that can be done? If you know let me know.

Thanks

Theoretically, there are a couple companies that produce stuff like cams and intake manifolds for the Duratecs.

Realistically, you swap in the 4.0L V6.

I have a 2000 Ranger with the even more gutless 2.5, and it's plenty of power... It's a truck, not a racecar...

Gears, gears, gears. Get lower gears. I loved my stock duratec 2.3 with some 4.10 gears. That's why my lima 2.3L is getting 4.10's first:icon_thumby:

I know it's just a truck just wanted to get more out of it if possible, also does the gas milage drop alote when putting in the 4.10's? I was thinking of running a taller tire like a 245 opposed to the 225 stock size.

If you put larger tires on the truck the performance will get worse.

Mine was an 06' extended cab 2wd, with stock 225/75R15 tires it got 30-32 average per tank while keeping my foot out of it. I put 30/9.50R15's on and it did drop the power a some and the mileage dropped to around 25ish but I never changed the speedo/odo so thats just a guess but it didn't make it drink the gas and I was still perfectly happy with the power. I had to fill up maybe one day sooner than I used to. I personally totally recommend gears as a first upgrade. I think that my 92's mileage will go up a good bit when I am actually able to use fifth gear for more than just going down hill:icon_rofl: It has 3.54's now and 5th is a joke unless I'm going over 60 on flat ground

I was thinking of 4.10's and 245's like the 4x4's, but was wondering what the mileage might be then? Just wondering if anyone else has done so?

actual mileage for each vehicle has many variables my friend. There are several formulas on the tech page (near the bottom right) that will tell you which gear set is recommended for bigger tires to keep your same power and things such as that. I'd just figure out what gears a formula says then step it up a set or two:) and you should be about where you wanna be. I think 4.10's will be plenty myself.

2.3L turd i have a 03 ranger its the 2.3 5 speed 5 " lift in front 3" in rear onn 33's and mine does just fine with power even on the highway with trailers and still getting 20 mpgs

I run 31.5s with 4.10s, enough get up and go, and highway i cruise at 61 mph at like 2150 rpms

I've recently picked up a 90 xlt 2.3l 5-speed 4x4 Dana 35 and 410's. It's got 235/75 15" tires. It's got 150K and runs great, with very little rusting underneath. :icon_thumby:
I went over it pretty thorough and did some fixes to bring it up to snuff... and I just went through NJ Safety and Emissions Inspection, it passed with no problems. NJ inspections are pretty tough. It is in good running condition except the electronic 4x4 deal = no 4x4 driving yet. :dunno:
I really had hoped for a better mpg average with my driving conditions 50/50 for city/hiway, being a 4- banger and 5-speed. So far I've averaged 20-22 mpg. I wish it was one of those 30-32 mpg Rangers. Yes, I know, with this particular Ranger, that's probably as it gets. :icon_cheers:
I feel like the engine is a bit small, the last Ranger I had was a 91 2-wheel with the 4.0 and an auto. That thing ran pretty quick but gave crappy mileage with 15-20 mpg. :bawling:

The easiest way to get 4.10 is grab one at a junk yard from a 4x4 ranger? I'd be interested in this as I have a 5-speed and do mostly city driving so I can cruise in 5th going 30-35 to save gas but would like to have more power at the wheels.

So, where is the best place to get a 4.10? And forgive my noob-ness; but 4.10 DOES reference the rear axle ratio, correct?
