So i have an 87 ranger with the 2.9 stock everything. i have 2 100w lights already on my truck and it runs fine as well as 2 35w lights in the back. i am going to be putting on 3 more 100w lights and the 2 55w lights. i know i need more power to run all of this. my question is it better to get a higher amp alternator or dual alternator or even dual batteries?

The OEM system runs approx 60 amps and you wil need another 50 min, just to run the lights, so that is 110 amps.
If you want a BIG amp or other power hungry components you will need to get an alternator capable of handling the load.
IMHO, 120 amp min, a 140 or 160 will do the job without a problem allowing for expansion of the electrical load without replacing the alternator another time.
You can buy a high output alternator from a number sources, shop around or maybe there is a stocker out there you can locate that will fit and do the job.

When wiring the light keep them in pair and use relays, that way you can switch on some and not others as you need them. I don't think you can get by with what you have but you could give it a try first.
Remember, relay, lights in pair and good grounds back to the battery.

When reading other posts on basically the same problem it was suggested to get an alternator from an Explorer. They have 120 amp unit and may be a direct replacement.

Check it out !
