hey guys im 6' 1"and just recently picked up a 97 regular cab for a steal. but being a smaller truck and regular cab theres not much legroom the bench seat really gives you no room for adjustment. so is there a way to make this a bit more comfortable by swapping out the bench for a pair of seats? would i want them to sit higher or lower than the stock bench seat? any input is greatly appreciated.

By bench seat, do you mean the split 60/40 seat?

swap in some cavaleir bucket seats... or any smaller car buckets

Find a ranger with the 60/40 split. It'll bolt right in, and you can easily convert them to buckets.(tech library has a good write up) Regular cabs are definately tight for you bigger guys.

so the 60/40 seats would be a little more comfortable or are you just saying that theyre easy to convert to buckets?

by smaller car buckets do you mean seats from a sedan/coupe or do you just mean smaller profile seats?

yes. thats what i meant. like an escort or something. if you want to make your own mounts and stuff, set the seat as far back as you can, and drill your holes or just make some adapters if you have the tools.

yea, i think that the 60/40 tracks you can just take off and weld or bolt them to the bottom of whatever seat. (im not sure if those tracks are rivited, bolted, or welded on) but keep in mind that those tracks bolt in the same location. but you can test it out also

They have the same tracks that buckets do, a JY will probably charge the same with either the 60/40 or buckets so get whichever you prefer.

I have a 98 reg cab with the 60/40 split seats and I'm almost 6'3". I would have to say I fit fairly comfortably in mine with the seat all the way back. I'm not skinny either. lol

i agree. i got a 99 single cab with the 60/40 seats and im 6'2" and fit comfortable in there

Remember the 98+ single cabs are 3" longer.

Watch which seats you get from Rangers/Explorers. I got seats out of an extended cab and they are thicker then the stockers. I lost a little bit of room and notice it when I go between my 96 and 95.

i think they will be a little more comfortable for me. but also ILLEGALCONCEPTS does have a point the 98+ models are a few inches bigger. and unfortunately i have a 97 :bawling:

man when i clicked on the link and saw police academy i was like what the hell does this have to do with my question but that was hilarious gave me a good laugh man i needed that! lol

so basically im lookin for regular cab seats then? if im not mistaken the seats at the junker i was interested in were from a extended cab. is it a really big difference in the two?

I'm 6'3" plus and explorer buckets or escort gt buckets will give you the most head and leg room. The escort gt or mustang gt (early model gt seats) in my opinion gave me the most leg room and head room.

Hope this helps

I noticed it as soon as I put them in the truck. I had just forgotten about it because it was so long ago. It may be just that the high trim levels have thicker seats. My replacements came from a 94 and have power lumbar and bolster (sp) with pockets in the back for storage. I would check out whatever you can find if the price is right.
