I have a 1984 ranger xlt 4x4 my drive shaft broke I was wounding. If I can use a bronco 2 4x4 drive shaft.

ADSM08 I am curious what is the difference between the two? Is he talking about the front or the back shaft? I figured this is a good time to learn something new :icon_thumby:

I'm not up on exchanges but I thought the front shaft would exchange, maybe the yokes are different? AFAIK, the wheelbase length prevents the rear shaft from exchanging. Also interested in learning.

Its my rear drive shaft it broke at the yoke and I lost a shit load of peaces

the flange and universal joints on the axle side should interchange on the rear shaft but as adsm08 says the shaft itself will not and the upper joint on the rear bronco shaft is also a cv joint or the ... whats the double u joint called. but it wont work. but you can use the lower joint and pinion flange.

The front shafts interchange just fine, as long as the transmissions are the same length.

The rear ones are completely different. Most B2s had the CV style, which is junk to begin with, but they are all way too short. The longest B2 is still more than 10" shorter than the shortest Ranger.

Are there any aftermarket rear drive shafts, or one off another vehicle compatible with the rear shaft on the B2? I agree the CV style is junk as are any CV style shafts period.

The Explorer front shafts require the least modification of any that I am aware of. NAPA, LMC,and a few others sell reman units though.

Probably best to go aftermarket I would assume to be able to do away with that CV connection on the rear driveshaft, if that's what that is under that rubber boot on the rear driveshaft.
