have A 1997 ranger xlt 4.0 Just had some exhaust work done and noticed what looks like a shock on drivers side of engine coming off of the power steering and goes to frame , it’s missing a bolt on the bottom and is just hanging there loose. Any one know what this shock does and where I can get a replacement bolt. Thanks

Basically a shock, yes. Called a damper or stabilizer or similar name. One end of it should connect to the steering linkage. Probably just a standard bolt. Do you see a bracket on the steering linkage? If not, you may be missing the bracket too.

Ought not to be too hard to find at a junkyard.

Rick’s 97 Ranger Rig. Lower picture is at about the 10 o’clock position behind driver side tire. I can’t tell if the strut bolt is an Allen or if it’s a nut on the engine side.! It’s a pretty hefty little plate attached to the frame.

Let me know if you need some of my 1997 surface grease/dirt...
